Interesting hypothetical title situation

Recommended Posts

Let’s say your estranged stepbrother had a heart attack and dies without a will.  He was long ago divorced at the time of his death, but owned a motorcycle that he bought in 2011 with his then wife and both names are on the title. Since no payment has been made on his house since his death, the bank is foreclosing and his motorcycle is sitting in the garage, long ago paid off and you have the title in hand.

What do do you do and how do you process the title?

Involve local law enforcement and ex wife to retrieve rightful property from foreclosed home.

That would be a question you should ask John since title work is one of his specialties

The estate handles this. Ex wife gets half of the value of the bike, the estate gets the rest. Since there is no will the whole thing goes into probate.

Charge them a monthly rental fee for it equal to the cost of the mortgage.
