Putting feelers out there.  Not dying to buy at the moment, but it's in the plan and if someone had a pair to let go for the right price, I'm game for a conversation.  Obviously willing to travel, demo, and just listen to some tunes.

Listened to the 3.7i and 1.7i in store quite a few times, buddy has an older pair of MGIIIs that we've listened to extensively and got me interested in the sound.  Katie is totally on board.  Best girl ever?!?!  Clearly the answer is yes.

I know you didn't ask for that specific version but thought I would toss it out there.

Hey Jacob...I have a pair of MG12R's I bought from someone here a few years ago.I had them factory refurbished, but I'm not looking to sell.I just bought a house with a big enough living room that I'm going to use them as my rear speakers. They're not in the same league as the 3.6 or 1.7.I came real close to buying the 1.7's a few years ago.Hard to beat Maggie's when it comes to imaging and transparency.I still listen to a lot of classic rock and Reggae so I went with Goldenear Triton 3's for the bass and dynamics. What are you driving the Maggie's with?

Awesome man, big room is a necessity with these things as I understand it.  Our space now is decent, but in the next couple years we'll be putting a proper room onto the house.  I bought a Musical Fidelity M6si last summer.  Figured I could add the small equipment slowly, and enjoy it now, and add the Maggie's last.

My nearby Magnepan dealer also recently got Goldenear, haven't heard them yet, but I just can't get over the feel of Magnepan.  Katie was a fan of the Paradigms for movie stuff, but for music it was pretty clear for us the direction we were headed.

You'll be needing a sub-woofer with the magnepans. An electronic cross-over to adjust the roll off for the sub and a  multi amp set up would be a nice touch. No real recommendation on the brand of equipment you should get but it's worth thinking about in the final design. Looking for a nice turntable?

If anyone is looking...

A lifetime ago, I used to sell high end audio.  I'm selling a pair of Polk RT3000P Speakers.  I know the Polk name doesn't have the cache' of some other audio names in high end circles, but their flagship models are as good or better than speakers costing much more.  The bass units are powered with a heavy amp that puts out a legitimate 300w/channel.

New these were $3,600/pair.  They sound fantastic.  Stock photo

Have a decent sub now, but will probably end up with a JL for the room if we feel it needs one.  I don't listen to much low bass heavy music, so it it'll be a secondary priority.

You have a table available?

I have a thorens td-166 with a few accessorizes,

Yours  for the pithy price of $200.00 with a selection of cartridges and this includes a sunus blue as well as a few others.

To be fair the belt is dead and needs replaced. PRB.com should solve that problem.

Ah, if you are even interested

Had a friend buy a pair of flat panel speakers, when they first came out on the market. Big ones. We found that they were very directional, they had a small sweet spot where you could hear stereo clearly. He added two more for back speakers, which opened up the sound.

I have not listened to any Martin Logans, closest dealer to me didn't respond to a demo request.  :dunno:

Nice thing about the MLs is the curved panels, bigger sweet spot.  I also liked VMPS speakers using planar drivers, but the owner died and the company is under.  If you can find a used pair of  RM40s, worth a listen.
