The question is:  How can we keep this sort of thing from happening over & over again as it has been?

Are you trying to suggest something?  In my FB feed, I see some people are fearful and suggesting restricting rights via some kind of gun control measure.

WTF.

The possibility of something happening?

Have you seen the news? It is happening, over and over again. We tried your way, which is to do nothing. Your way is a complete failure.

What is my way?

I don't support restricting rights of hundreds of millions of people based on actions on the most despicable elements of society.  Thats not how we base rights in America.

I don't support restricting 1st amendment rights based on despicable elements like WBC or Jimmy Kimmel.

I don't support restricting 2nd amendment rights based on actions of some shitbags that want to kill Innocents.

Rights aren't and should not be based on the lowest element of society.

I clearly stated what your way is, to do nothing. And your post above confirms it.

Every Constitutional right has limits. Cant yell fire in a crowded theater. Cant get a late term abortion.

Diagnosed psychopath father, tends to run in families. Older guy, mid 60's... about the time people start getting diagnosed with diseases and/or checking off things on their bucket list. A lack of conscience/morals + an affinity for firearms spells trouble. He planned the hell out of that attack, down to researching exactly what room to get for the best vantage over the strip/concert venue and multiple windows/firing positions to better conceal himself while sniping.

My guess is it's something he wanted to do for fun, got his jollies and took the shortcut out. That or the commies set him up to push anti-gun legislation through and take us over. God damn commies.

Making new laws doesn't change the past, only possible futures. Have you seen truck attacks?  Why don't we increase Mentally Ill Control.. again

You prepare for a random car crash on the highway by having seatbelts, air bags and crash resistant cars. All federally mandated.

And you don't run around saying cars dont kill people, people kill people.

By that rationale, concert goers should be wearing bulletproof vests. The crash still happens, there's just more protection.

Umm, remember the Brady Bill?   That was in effect for what, a decade?  It was also shown statistically to have no impact on homicide rates.

We are trying to address mass shootings here. Well at least some of us are.

Ok, and how are you trying to do that?

And out of curiosity, why are mass shootings (which are a very small percentage of homicides) any more important than innocent people getting killed in other ways?

I said no such thing, and any implication that I did is a lie.

Let's review.  I referenced overall homicide rates.

You said specifically "mass shootings."

I asked a reasonalbe question.

Jim, I do believe you are talking in circles, while presenting no useful information whatsoever.

So I'll ask for a 3rd time...what exactly are you suggesting?  I am open to seeing what you have to say, but if you can't articulate your ideas, then stop wasting my time.

The crowded theater example keeps coming up but it’s thoroughly unfitting. By analogy, one would ban words in the off chance someone will use them maliciously or even carelessly in public, and yes, that would indeed violate the first amendment as it is explicitly written to prevent it.  For example, I abhor the historical horrors of socialism but I’ll defend to the end Bernie and Bro’s espousal of it, as the unintended consequences of removing his right to exercise that constitutional liberty is a more present authoritarian threat than the ultimate authoritarian outcome his ideas could bring.

Similarly, the liberty implications and unintended consequences of most gun control proposals cannot simply be waved aside

By the way, abortion isn’t explicitly canonized in the Constitution or the BoR, so that analogy doesn’t work either.

Eliminate gun free zones and eliminate ccw restrictions. If one can legally purchase and own a gun he should be able to carry that gun wherever and wherever. That's a start.

Even still, to be fair and set expectations appropriately, nothing short of banning all access to guns, fertilizer, Rider trucks, planes, poisons, precursor materials and machetes is going to stop a determined murderer from taking a lot of people out before they’re killed.

Imagine if this pilot had loaded explosives into a Cessna and initiated a (diverted) approach into the concert area?  No guns are going to prevent that, short of a AAA battery perhaps.
