I know you guys love the Gap area, but it's so overdone....a lot like the 10/22 route in NKY.  High enforcement area with artificially low speed limits to dampen the fun factor and increase revenue.  Have you ever thought of staying a bit further south in the Franklin area?  Not that much further, still close enough to the Gap and other roads in that vicinity to make a day ride out of it, and an easier run to the great roads in northern GA--28 south to Pine Mtn (even great into SC!) then east on Warwoman thru Clayton on 76 to 197 around Lake Burton, 356 over to 348/Richard B Russell Hwy.  And if you never ridden the circle loop of 215-276 between Brevard and Waynesville, DO EET!!!  The south side run on 215 from the BRP to 64/Rosman is one of the best race tracks in the area--good enough to run it down, then back up just for giggles--with no LEOs and very little traffic.  Also sample 281/Canada Rd and 1001/Elijay/Tilley Creek Rd while you're in the area.  Given the timing, I might actually try to make this one if the stars align.

Not sure of Tim's plans for this year but you should check the routes for last year. We did 1 pass of Cherohala and the gap. I think we hit many of the routes you describe. The nomadic option allowed us to cover more area.

When we say Gap Trip we mean general area. We hit most of the roads you mention every time we go down with a few extras too like Wolf Pen gap, C.Skyway and many others. Last years fall gap trip we stayed in Johnson City, Claton(GA) and Rocky Top. Honestly we will probably run through the Dragon once and be done with it.

Oh.  So you're saying you've got this handled?  Well, I'll just go back to surfing for internet porn then...

Still might be able to make this, tho.  Maybe y'all can learn me a thing or two about ridin'.  'Course, I might slow you down...IJS

Don't let Tim lie to you, he trailers to Knoxville on 75, unloads in the Maryville Walmart parking lot, rides down 129 to the lookout, takes a selfie and turns around to head back home.

He can't haul 5 sets of spare tires with him on his bike so this is his way of mitigating fucking racebike effect on trips farther than the local starbucks.

Didn't mean to come off any other way than, "yup that's what we do". Always looking for ride recommendations if it's new stuff to me. So pour in the knowledge when ever you want.

Ah, I love the good natured banter on this forum...even if y'all are assholes.

My only hope is that if I do manage to make the trip, I'll become an overnight OR legend based strictly on my epic farting skills...

Plan to share a room?  God help the poor soul.

If i load up on cabbage, cashews, and beer, I could asphyxiate a maggot colony, so lets keep our distance!

I'm gonna keep this ride on my back burner.  It'll be that time of year where I will likely be needing my Gerbings, especially in the mornings.  Much nicer than riding in oppressive heat.

Thanks!

I did this ride last year without heated gear. I now have a Gerbing jacket liner because of this trip.

I ran a heated vest last year for a couple mornings. I too have gerbing stuff now that I have yet to use.

I got the jacket liner and gloves.   Gloves are so much more awesome than just heated grips.  Been a few times i wish I had heated sox, but only a few.  The bad part about that time of year is deer starting to go into rut.

The jacket liner and gloves are what I have now too. The Connie putsout more than enough heat for the lower regions.

I'm used to deer year round living where I do. My head is always on a swivel.

I bought my first piece of heated gear 10 years ago.  I now have a spare set because I never want to be without it.  I'll put the vest on in the summer if I know I'm going to be in the rain all day.  Rain is always cold.  Also, I'm a wuss.

Yeah...I dont know how I survived without it before.  Im an old wuss now too.!   But i love taking a backroad ride when the roads are dry and there is a light snow falling.  At those times , it is unlikely to cross paths with a pirate.!

The DRZ is a little lite on the electric power for much heated gear. Handlebar muffs are ugly as sin but work similar wonders for my hands. I have heated gloves but the wires are a pain. Might have to consider a vest but that would be at the limit for the stator.
