2017 Fall Gap Trip 10/19-10/22(meet up evening of 10/18)

Recommended Posts

UPDATE....Hotels have changed and updated in this post as well as the maps.

Trip is planned and details are below, I'll keep the list and ifo updates in this first post......First the usual disclaimer...

Ride your own ride. Enjoy the weekend. Be safe. This is not a competition or a race. This is just a good weekend away with friends. You are responsible for yourself. This is, of course, an "at your own risk" event. Motorcycling is dangerous. These roads are dangerous. Be careful. Ohio Riders (and/or it's owners, blah blah blah) cannot be held liable for anything (like, but not limited to, traffic tickets, accidents, stupidity, death, etc). Asshats need not apply. :asshat:

So with that said we are looking at the weekend of and dates for October 18th-22nd. This will be a nomad trip meaning a different hotel every night and we will try to keep the hotels cheap.  The routes will be up for discussion we can do similar to last year or maybe do a BRP day or what ever I good with anything. If you roll with the usual group will be a medium fast pace 10 to 20 over most of the time but no man will be left behind.

 Folks Going......

And I think I had less luggage volume using a dry bag strapped to the rear fender of my supermoto.

Now I have rackless saddlebags, i should have room for clean underwear and a tshirt :D

Likely in. I had a great trip last year and would love to hit those roads again.

My Vacation is approved so it looks like these dates of 10/19-10/22 it will be. I'm actually off the whole week so if anyone might wants to leave earlier I may be game for that too. Justin will be on the before mentioned dates so I'm not saying everyone needs to go early if I decided that.

We were thinking about finding a hotel in northern WV or Kentucky the evening of 10/18(Wed) for a meet up or we can set up a spot further south for Thursday meet up like we did last year.

For the guys that want to trailer down we will probably only stay in the gap area one night maybe two. Thinking about two nights at one hotel just to accommodate the trailer guys and be able to hang with them too. I'll start working on Hotels and routes this week and weekend.

I know you guys love the Gap area, but it's so overdone....a lot like the 10/22 route in NKY.  High enforcement area with artificially low speed limits to dampen the fun factor and increase revenue.  Have you ever thought of staying a bit further south in the Franklin area?  Not that much further, still close enough to the Gap and other roads in that vicinity to make a day ride out of it, and an easier run to the great roads in northern GA--28 south to Pine Mtn (even great into SC!) then east on Warwoman thru Clayton on 76 to 197 around Lake Burton, 356 over to 348/Richard B Russell Hwy.  And if you never ridden the circle loop of 215-276 between Brevard and Waynesville, DO EET!!!  The south side run on 215 from the BRP to 64/Rosman is one of the best race tracks in the area--good enough to run it down, then back up just for giggles--with no LEOs and very little traffic.  Also sample 281/Canada Rd and 1001/Elijay/Tilley Creek Rd while you're in the area.  Given the timing, I might actually try to make this one if the stars align.

When we say Gap Trip we mean general area. We hit most of the roads you mention every time we go down with a few extras too like Wolf Pen gap, C.Skyway and many others. Last years fall gap trip we stayed in Johnson City, Claton(GA) and Rocky Top. Honestly we will probably run through the Dragon once and be done with it.
