Dude, from what I see all the Duc's have ABS now.  Which makes sense as it is mandatory in Europe now I believe.

You would be surprised to know that mine is actually the Biposto model so it started out at 402lbs dry.  Major weight savings as IP mentioned is the wheels, dropped 15lbs on them alone.  Other items that helped are the aftermarket rearsets(2lbs), lightweight race exhaust(10lbs), removed the lead acid battery and box for a Shorai Lithium battery (7lbs), factory airbox and filter are gone(4lbs), the fender eliminator and led tail lights(4lbs).  The amazing part is that the aluminum bodywork and gas tank weighs less than the stock plastic parts also, it's only maybe another pound or two but it's not something I had expected to save any weight on.  There are a miriad of other parts changed that add up to ounces each but everything helps.

Ducati considers them proprietary but most of them are available from online sources if searched for hard enough.  Several of the online Ducati dealers have full parts fiche breakdowns for free (Ducai Omaha is one).  You will get a sad rendition of a wiring diagram in the back of the owners manual.  A full electrical section does come in the workshop service manual.

I don't hate Ducati but can never see myself buying one. I don't have any use for character in a bike, while I can wrench some I have no desire to. I break shit, almost everything I ride or drive so I want to be able to replace it cheaply and quickly without remorse. Getting a Ducati to perfection and throwing it off the side of the road would be a waste of time and effort. How a bike looks doesn't factor in very highly on my buying criteria and I think most Ducatis are beautiful but wouldn't every pay extra for the good looks.

I don't care how a motorcycle sounds either. I'm far from a "greenie" but I can't wait until silent electric motorcycles become useful, that's why my bikes keep the stock quiet exhaust. It's also a reason for me to ride in front on most group rides, I hate listening to loud motorcycles. I really want a good automatic bike too, shifting gears is such a tiresome ordeal and hopefully will become unnecessary.

The Multistada on paper is just about as good as it gets and for the right person is perfection. IP falls into that narrow group of people that are capable of riding and working on them to get the most out of it, I totally get why he loves that bike. The BMW S1000XR also looks good on paper, I'm hoping Honda, Kawasaki or Yamaha make a bike that reaches the Multi or the XR benchmarks.

Plus they are all junk and I'm not a fag.

Almost, it's just hats jackets, shirts, and helmets.  I guess they do make bikinis for the ladies. ;)  It's still better than other brands that require assless chaps and vests covered in patches with useless sayings all over them.  :)

love my "new edge" ducati.  I'm with IP on the character aspect.  i can't own a motorcycle or car for that matter that doesn't have character.  

out of all the bikes I've owned and ridden i have came down to 2 bikes that i absolutely love.  2010+ Multistrada and Street Glide.  they are no where in the same realm of each other, but they are both amazing bikes.  The multistrada is a do it all bike, i can spend a lot of time in the saddle without bother, i can run through canyon roads like  a sport bike, and i can do a track day on it.  It is by far my favorite bike of all time.  Im a big fan of the "standard" riding position, and the multistrada has a great seat position, upright, but still sporty.  

 

the Street Glide on the other hand is hands down my favorite long haul bike, especially the newer models.  they improved a lot on the new models that were lacking on previous 2013 and back models.  Suspension got a lot better, especially the way they mount the forks, the front end feels 100Xs more stable.  the technology package on the special model is awesome, 6.5" touch screen navigation with bluetooth, a great traveling tool, and I'm a huge fan of having a radio when traveling.  its an amazing 2 up bike, my wife and i never got tired or sore on our last one with the stock seat on decently long rides, but after putting on a new seat, we rode 12 hours and neither of us were sore at all, i was amazed.  the seating position has a lot to do with it.  and like ducati, harleys have a lot of character.  and with the right person behind the bars, they bike will surprise a lot of people in the corners.  i was running down guys on sport tourers at deals gap last year.

Well I guess I'll ad my two cents to this thread. I have 2013 Ducati Monster EVO 20th Anniversary addition. I got the fever for a Ducati in 2014. I looked at an EVO at Competition in Springfield that they had at a close out deal. By the time I got back to see what they would give me for my 2006 Triumph Sprint ST, the bike was going. My grandson told me about a Ducati dealer in Grand Rapids, MI. He was working at Watson's in GR at the time. We checked their web site and saw the 2013 EVO. I went to Fox Power Sports in GR and traded my Sprint for the Duc. I love this bike and have done some mods. They are bar end mirrors and Arrow Carbon Exhaust. Ducati's aren't for everyone and I have a good friend who has owned Ducati's for a number of years. He felt the Monster EVO would be a good fit for me. He was correct.

Better late than never I guess.I spent two years in Holland back in the early eighties and it was amazing how the Dutchies got around without owning a car.They had a hugh cycling population that was encouraged by having bike lanes along side nearly every road,compartments on buses and trains to store bikes and bicycle parking everywhere.With the interconnected mass transit systems(buses,trains,aircraft all connected through common stations) you could get to anywhere in Europe with your bike.It didn't seem like many people under thirty even bothered to own a car and people of all ages rode bikes on a regular basis.

We are light years behind Europe on puplic transit.It's a shame.

My roommate just bought a new RSV4, and yes, it sounds soooo good....but I still love my Monster more...he's already ordered a slip on which is going to make it so loud, but hopefully not annoying. Maybe I'm just over supersports at this point....or maybe I've just had too many Frappuccinos now that I'm a Ducati hipster...or perhaps I'm just getting old... lol

And one day I'll have a Ducati bikini bc why not, gotta have something to wear when I wash my bike right??? [emoji6] haha

My 13 y.o. T(bought @ 11 y.o. so I knew I was getting a viable survivor) now has an R6 rectifier (Ran ok subframe was a hotplate) ...

My Honda VFR had a suzuki rectifier and Ricks stator, the wires corroded in the middle of the insulation.

Electrex make 90% of oem electrics.

Triumphs eat batteries.

My gas tank also swelled and won't fit the mounts . Metal tanks from earlier models can be found.(ducati shared this problem)

I'm happy with my bike  "Challenges Accepted!" </Barney Stinston voice>
