How to Vote - No ID needed

Did anyone vote yet? I did yesterday and it was a paper ballot, then you fill in your circles with a pen and feed it to a electronic machine in a big lockbox. It should spit out a receipt for who you voted for, but no.

A friend of mine said there was a guy right inside the door of his voting place asking what party he was voting for and passing out flyers with the names you should vote for if you wanted all democrats. I thought that was illegal as hell? He said he very loudly called the guy out but was still there when he left.

I think that is indeed illegal, and hopefully very restricted.  I personally received straight-ticket voting cards for both the republican and democratic parties in the mail, but I didn't see anyone at my polling place violating the "protected space" rules.  Short lines too - easy as always in my area.

Something about 100 feet from the polling place comes to mind.

I've never gotten a "receipt" before, and that is the voting system that has been in place every time I've voted for the past 12 years.

I voted and it was fill in the bubble like the last few times.  The machine scans and reports if I left any blank.  I hit agree or something like that to continue.

A long time ago we had a small punch card type system to poke holes in the votes we cast.  Can't remember how long that one has been gone, but pretty sure it was after the 2004 election.  I volunteered to see how the system works.

I've never been given a receipt.  It's not like it would do you any good.  What are they going to do, have everyone return their receipt to match vote totals?

This is my main concern about the voting machines in general.  The old punch card system was worked on by one guy, who had been doing it for a long time, according to the county worker who 'educated' me.  The guy was a contractor for the company who made the machine I believe.  I thought, seems like an easy way to conduct voter fraud just by manipulating the output of the machine.

Now we use electronic ones, with no printed record stored in the bin, that could be used to verify the electronic tally.  How hard would it be to change the programming?  Couldn't be too hard.  And who would know?  How could you check?  The system is very vulnerable at they machine counting level.  This is why I think in person voter fraud is a bull shit issue.

Machine voter fraud is much easier and much harder to detect.

Back to my story, the vote counts that we checked were selected before our arrival.  I can tell you that was complete bullshit as those could have been cherry picked for accuracy.

Not sure what could be done about it.

There were several investigative reports years ago about the hackability of electronic voting machines and it was basically demonstrated that a motivated pair of actors could easily compromise vote integrity.  I'm too lazy to dig up the links at the moment, but I know that Diebold was specifically named.  As such, I completely agree that the risk of white collar voting fraud is much higher than the risk of manual vote stuffing.

Your paper ballot is still in the bin for recount

Thank you.  I didn't even think about that part.  Since paper saved and matched to the the number in the voting book, this makes me feel better.

Ours were a punch thing, than digital, then this fill in the blank with a pen deal.

What is the difference? The result is the same only the method is different. Paper vs. electronic.

As Magley pointed out the original video was a legal action under the voting laws of that state.

But even so, one person having full control of hundreds of ballots and temptation being part of human nature...

Plenty of studies this year about it also.

With the outcome of this past election the temptation is to say that the outcome proves it didn't happen.

But that would be a false assumption based on poll data and personal opinion.

The argument that it did happen and the Republicans were successful is just as easily made.

The bigger issue is doubt. Did it happen? Will it happen in the future?

Mid terms are important to be sure. 2016 is just around the corner and that will be the rest of the cookies.

As Turnone points out, how would you know? What could you do about it?

Reminds me of an interview with a veteran immigration officer, that asked each one that he deported if they voted. About 10% freely admitted they voted in American elections. Crunch some numbers and that would be over a million votes, and probably twice that considering some wouldn't admit to doing that.

Mexico, Canada and Great Britain require voter ID, to prevent fraud. (What the heck do they know?) As do most other countries in the world. Apparently most countries think the USA is rather stupid for not having control over voting procedures.

And I still want to know what the deal was with the sudden find of 30,000 votes for Hillary in Philadelphia, after the election,  that suddenly showed up right before Detroit was caught submitting fraudulent votes. Got real quiet suddenly, on both counts.
