I wish I had the ability to draw it on here but that is how we did it last year and did not work out very well.

Looking at the pic, take the color bars and go from top to bottom with them instead of left to right. Now if you look close there is a light pole at the mid point of each yellow lane of parking spots and use that as your barrier from one group to the next and use like 2 of those lanes

Am I making any sense? lol

Like this?? (holds breath)

Right idea so close enough! Depends on how big the groups end up being but likely each group will only need 1 of the "yellow lanes" and not 2 but thats still easier to deal with than how it was last year

If I can get my GPS wired up/mounted -- I'll lead or sweep our Dayton area group.  Just for simplicities sake in case we get lost, we'll all be lost together :D

Last year we only used about half of the portion of parking lot that you've got marked Derek.....just fyi.

Yea. I know. Just a general idea for people to park in general spots to park.

...

If he leads I will sweep, I agree with keeping Dayton together if all are comfortable in the med group. But, we will wait at the meet spot for all the groups and riders to come back. I do not want someone uncomfortable riding at med speed if they belong in slow.

FYI to all, if I'm leading our group then the pace will be more of a very spirited SLOW group....I don't know the roads/route much, but I'll definitely be waiting for the group to recollect at every route change so nobody ends up seperated out in BFE

I had the day off and was bored.  I read every single

posting in this thread and based this information on

your latest posts, and what you stated that you were

willing to do.  I'm not trying to step on anyone's toes.

I'm only trying to fill some gaps and update information

that needed put in place.

Everyone, please read.  If you are not listed, you need

to post up and state which skill level you choose to ride

in.  If you are listed but have not indicated a preferred

skill level, please do so as soon as possible.

Thanks to all.

Jack,

Keep me in the maybe attending section but definitely take me out of the possibility of leading or sweeping a slow group. I'm not gonna be 2up like I thought so it'll be a medium group for me. I'd sweep a medium group if Mykill is the lead rider and we hand pick riders we know

This is good for me, our medium group is filling up quick and could use another group to help keep the packs manageable

Thanks for the help Jack.   I want to stay away from organizing the groups and placing people with specific leads/sweeps.  That would only lead to disaster at the event trying to micromanage like that... Plus, I believe there are people coming from other places that haven't RSVP'ed or are friends of people on the forum.  Last year, we only had about 40 or so people listed to showing to the event and we had over 75 bikes.

I just want organize leads sweeps based off how many riders we think we will have (and have some on reserve in case we get way more riders than expected).

So for now, lets just organize people by the speeds they want to go into and then when they arrive they can decide which lead/sweep group they want to organize into .

Secondly, I'll lead the med-fast group with whaler sweeping. I've talked to him and we've decided this was the best decision. wolfman1 will ride in the med-fast group, he likes to keep a fairly spirited pace which wouldn't be good for leading a slow group. (I'm sure he'd be willing to lead a medium group if needed last minute though)

I'll add helmutt/snot as lead/sweep for their specific medium group.

I understand your point however that again was a HUGE issue of not having pre planned groups going in to it. As the person who got thrust in I the day of organizing role, it is way easier to have 50 people pre planned into groups and add in the additional people who aren't listed than to deal with a 75 person clusterfuck.

I hope you're not taking offense to my tips and suggestions but just trying to help things go smoother than last year. Being the one who ended up in the middle helps me recognize some of the short falls of such a massive gathering.

Absolutely no offense taken. I only took the role of organizing because nobody else was doing it.

Let me welcome you to group planning. Where the motto is "if you don't do it yourself, it's not getting done"

Many many people appreciate you stepping up. And I'm just trying to help best I can to assist with some things to make it easier!

I'll lead the fast group if nobody else steps up to the plate. Keep in mind I'll be on a barely broken in new bike & this is only the 2nd time I've been on most of these roads.

I'd volunteer, but I haven't ridden these roads before.  It would be a "quick scouting" pace which might not be everyone's idea of fast.

I believe there are people coming from other places that haven't

RSVP'ed or are friends of people on the forum.  Last year, we only

had about 40 or so people listed to showing to the event and we

had over 75 bikes.

I agree that we should expect many more riders than what have posted up.

My intent was to find the holes needing filled by additional LEADs and

Sweepers as we do not have enough stepping up to the plate for these roles.

One of the largest issues from last year was that the groups were too large.

Knowing where planning is deficient early on can help one to avoid ending

up with groups of 25 riders with no one wanting to lead or sweep, and no one

in the group having ridden the route before then.

Based on what you said here >> Last year, we only had about 40 or so people listed

to showing to the event and we had over 75 bikes.

.....to me that suggests we need twice the number of LEADs and Sweepers that

we currently have listed.

>>  I just want organize leads sweeps based off how many riders we think we will

have (and have some on reserve in case we get way more riders than expected).

I think we have in the neighborhood of 60 riders listed.  So, an expectation of 120

or more showing up is not out of order.  Friends from the north are not even listed

and Doc with his, probably growing, group of Michigan friends, could easily add

another ten, being a group all their own.

I think this thing is growing exponentially faster than the list of skilled riders

needed for leadership roles.  In the beginning, I was tempted to try and piece

together what it would take to make this ride a success, but was glad that you

stepped up and ran with it.  I didn't want to do it without the support I wanted

from others, but thought may be difficult to get.  There are lessons to be learned

here that can highly benefit us on future rides, if we pay attention to them, and

use the information for improvement and fine tuning.  We may also find that

strict guidelines may need to be enforced in order to maintain a manageable

event and for safety purposes.

This is an event that I, as a fairly new rider, look forward to.  But, I think I am

now beginning to realize why some prefer to avoid riding on group rides, due

to what it takes to put it together and keep it manageable.

Anyway, I'm not trying to step on toes.  I'm here to help do what I can, if needed.
