Snow test

So I see on Facebook people talking about it. Basically go outside and make a snow ball. Bring it in and burn it with a lighter. What happened is that it turns black and smells like burn plastic. Also it doesn't really melt.

Naturally my bullshit meter goes off. Then I try it myself and I'll be damned I got the same result.

Discuss.........

Edit* After further review of current conspiracy running amuck on FB I did it again. The blackness comes from the butane in the lighter. Also it does melt but the snow seems to draw the water in.

That would take some intense heat to do that with water err H2O

Sunlight sublimates ice crystals at 30k+ feet where it's well below freezing.

Not sure if it's actual sublimation going on or if the water is receding into the snow or simply running to a different part of the surface and refreezing...but it's an option.
