Damn, I guess I missed the event where Westboro murdered almost 3000 people.

Look up the crusades, the inquisition, and the Dark ages, then get back to me on how much better christianity is than islam...

Not to mention those things were sanctioned by the official church, where as the official mosques of islam have condemned the terrorists...

Roman Catholic Church "extremists" were responsible for most of that. But since Muslim "extremists" are responsible for horrendous atrocities against Americans here, and they are currently responsible for killing their own people in their home countries and Americans here, that makes the Muslim religion "and what they are doing in Michigan" leaving a very very bad taste in many Americans mouths. I never lumped all Muslims into the same bucket, just as I would not lump Christians or anybody else for that matter. But........in recent times the Muslim extremists are out for blood and growing, and they need to be exterminated. Evil is evil no matter how or what you are hiding behind.

Okay, now that we've established the atrocities perpetrated by the official church, (And your response that they haven't done anything really bad "lately") let's talk about fringe groups that use religion as their justification (essentially what al-queda is). The KKK has killed between 2000 and 4000 people over the last 90 years. So if we're condemning religions for their fringe groups, christianity doesn't have a leg to stand on there either...

Muslims around the world, and here in the U.S. have done their due dilligence in condemning these atrocities, they are not responsible for al-queda, or the taliban. Muslims can't be blamed for these groups any more than christians can be blamed for the KKK.

If you really think that te actions of al Queda can and should be attributed to every Muslim in the world, then you've shown your own stupidity in a truly heroic manner.

Wow.......2000 to 4000 between the last 90 years, and just how many Americans alone have died in the last 20 years at the hands of Muslim Extremists? Yes religion is used as a cover for a persons twisted belief or take on it, and yes they are condemned for the things they do by true believers and followers of their faith. The fact of the matter is, Muslim extremists are now the growing problem in the WORLD, and they especially have a hate and disdain for America. They are the ones carrying out the death and destruction in recent times, and they have no bounds as to what they will do to carry out their holy jihad. So yeah on many levels religion has been nothing but a blight upon this Earth, and now Muslim Extremists are the current Christians of old times gone and past.

This forum has lost members of the Muslim faith because of exactly what you people are saying. Pinning terrorism on an entire religion is idiotic. All the Muslims I know are nice, peaceful, respectable people who look at the wahadi extremists with the same disdain as we do.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out--

Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out--

Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out--

Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.

Nope......the word "extremist" has been used over and over, have not seen much of damning the entire religion. All religious extremists are dangerous IMHO, right now the Muslim extremists are enemy #1.

Clearly you haven't been reading the posts by "john g" and others... but fuck it, if people want to flaunt their bigotry, intolerance, and ignorance, I'm just as happy to point it out.

Some of you might be surprised at what the median Muslim actually believes. There have been many worldwide opinion polls... seek them out. The central tenets of Islam are fairly violent and misanthropic, and most followers in the 3rd world are true believers.

It's a major intellectual failing of Western liberals to not realize:

a) the emotional power of religious experience among true believers (of any faith.) It's just not something that a secular person can easily empathize with, short of certain kinds of drug-experiences.

b) the inherently violent nature of Mainstream muslim doctrine, as it is dispensed daily in tens of thousands of mosques world wide.

Instead the reaction is to draw equivalence to Christianity by quoting passages from Leviticus and invoking the Crusades.

Ive personally never heard of a Christian sermon based around the wacky sections of the old testiment... and one of the parties in the Crusades subsequently experienced a small event relevant to our lives callef the Enlightenment.

Islam is retrograde belief system responsible for a lot of misery among the poor souls unlucky enough to be born where it's the law of the land. Resist whatever kind of white guilt or team-sport-politics are driving you to defend it. Take a hard look at the current, mainstream beliefs and practices, and outcomes in the countries run under this system.

The enlightenment has zero to fucking do with christianity... ZERO. so to claim "enlightenment" as a christian thing is complete bullshit.

The Age of Enlightenment (or simply the Enlightenment or Age of Reason) was a cultural movement of intellectuals in the 17th and 18th centuries, which began first in Europe and later in the American colonies. Its purpose was to reform society using reason, challenge ideas grounded in tradition and faith, and advance knowledge through the scientific method. It promoted scientific thought, skepticism and intellectual interchange.[1] It opposed superstition and intolerance, with the Catholic church a favorite target. Some Enlightenment philosophes collaborated with Enlightened despots, who were absolute rulers who tried out some of the new governmental ideas in practice. The ideas of the Enlightenment have had a long-term major impact on the culture, politics, and governments of the Western world

You'd be suprised what the median catholic believes (what their basic tennents are), and catholocism being the largest sect of christianity, we can start there...

Funny, most of the atheists here see islam as just another bullshit abrahamic religion like judaism and christianity (you all worship the same god) where as it's been christians far and away who choose to demonize a religion that isn't their own, and a religion they've likely never bothered to study...

Have you even cracked the binding on an english translated qu'ran?

Maybe some people should try reading books instead of burning them. (in my best sean connery voice)

Just speaking for my Muslim friends I met on this forum who no longer log on, I never blew any of them.

I'm personally atheist and view all religion as utter bullshit. A mixture of man trying to understand the world around him before science could explain it and man's successful attempt at controlling populations while robbing them blind.

That being said, I respect people's choices to swallow whatever flavor of bullshit they choose provided they don't push it on me.

Have any told you the reason for them not logging on here anymore?

Will the answer change your view of Islam, or make you any less bigoted?

I mean seriously... You all really do worship the same god. Abraham's invisible bestie.

Far from the same whether you believe that or not "I know that you do not". And quit throwing the word bigot out there, you are no better or less innocent than anyone else when it concerns what they believe or don't believe. We have all shown bigotry or racism at some point in our lives "everyone has", so let ye without sin cast the first stone. Well since you are an atheist, you do not believe in sin anyway.....moot point.

It IS the same fictional charachter... you all use the OT... you have the same religious patriarch, you all have the same creation story. big bearded guy, 7 days, 6000 years ago (just roughly 2000 years after the plow was invented BTW... why would you need a plow before earth was created?)

Islam is inherently very violent. How naive are some of you?

Please, allow us to bask in the depth of your knowledge of the religion...

Do you know what the 5 pillars of Islam are, without googling?

Like I said, I'm willing to bet a WHOLE lot that you've never cracked the spine of a qu'ran, thumbed through it, read a single word other than what was pointed out by some anti-muslim website...
