  1. Sounds pretty scammy to me! Tell his "mover" to show up with some cash.
  2. If you really did want to camp, there will be plenty of campsites nearby. I've never camped as it's such a hassle to bring all of the gear along with you on a bike.
  3. And you can sleep in the van, too! Shit, you'll be making money on this trip!
  4. The "dinner" is only $7, it's those damned beers that end up costing so much. But we can drop you off at Taco Bell each night if you want.
  5. I hear ya- been going for about 15 years myself and it gets to be old sometimes. What I really like is the small booths in the hallways around the Westin and other out of the way places. This is where you see the guy that is doing his first show and usually have some really cool shit to see. Just some dumb part he invented. Better get a good look as they never come back for a a second year. That's why I go. Due to the economy, I'd suspect that this is going to be a much smaller show this year. Still, it's not like I have something better to do in the middle of winter.
  6. Download your own spreadsheet at www.adventuremotorcycleblog.net
  7. A friend sent me this spreadsheet on bike trip costs. Can't believe that someone took the time to do this, buty it is kinda cool to play around with. Estimated costs for this trip: Resulting in the following;
  8. IS anyone here going to the Indy Dealer Show on February 13-16th? I'll assume Lizard1 is, just checking if anyone else is going to go. I'll take as many pictures of cool stuff as I can and do a daily posting of them. Usually see some decent stuff and new ideas for parts, etc. They always have some cool custom bikes and a scantily clad booth-beeeatch or two as well.
  9. 28 from Franklin to Highlands, NC is a great road with lots of waterfalls and very narrow twisting lanes. Problem is that there is a lot of traffic heading to Highlands on the weekends as it's a tourist destination. South of Highlands a ways - just after you leave Georgia and enter SC, the topography flatens out and it becomes just another country road. Pretty boring really. But you can hit it on the way back home, too!
  10. Cops are thick as shit on 19 / 74 and the four lane portion of 28... Overlook on Route 28... Gas station at Route 28 as it turns off of 19 / 74 at Lauada...
  11. Some pics... Strange unknown man taking pics at the junction of 28 and Route 143 in NC... Route 28...
  12. Have ridden it hundreds of times. The best stretch is from the bridge crossing just north of Fontana Village south to about Tuskeegee, NC. It kind flattens out after that and becomes a heavily patroled 4 lane all the way down to the Route 19/74 junction. If you continue east on 19 / 74, 28 breaks off and goes south again at Lauada, NC. This i sprobably the best 20 miles or so in the country to ride. ShittyGixer had some issues with it last year, but it's still very good. Would call it "rugged and mountainous" but it does wind through the hills and some deep green forests. I'll see if I can find some pictures of the road.
  13. Bad Mexican food. Does it to me every time.
  14. I'd absolutely shit my pants if I saw that thing in the wild.
  15. Pah! Yer a bunch of nancy boys.... Okay, not really. Hate to turn this into a willy waving thread, but my friend Dave rode his R6 to Laguna Seca for the GP race twice. Stock seat, stock everything. We did 1,000 miles on the first day (Indy to Denver) and 1,000 miles 8 days later on the return. Had a couple of 700 mile days in between, but our average day was probably around 500 miles. I have a sport tourer, so it was a cakewalk for me, but Dave is a man amongst men. On the first trip he was 40 years old and the second time was when he was 44. So you younger guys should have no issues:p He rode his father's Gold Wing out to a WSB race with me at Laguna once and swore he'd never ride a tour bike again as it was a pig in the mountains and we had to wait for him a few times. Last year, we went to Utah for the WSB race and then on to Northern California and Dave rode his new FZ1 - he thinks it's the perfect bike for longer rides. That trip was right at 7,000 miles in about 12 days.
  16. I don't think his Daddy was all powerful / connected back then - I could be wrong as I haven't looked into though. I doubt Yale is just going to confer a degree upon someone, regardless of who their dad is. edit: looks like dad was in the House of Rep's around this time, so he probably did have some connections. Don't know how much / how many, etc.
  17. Doesn't mean anything - he doesn't know me and I don't know him. My opinion, along with everyone you don't know on the 'net, means very little.
  18. Explains a lot. Thus the "I know everything there is to know about everything" attitude. Go play with your soldering iron and shut the fuck up. On Ignore.
  19. And it's not like my opinion is worth anything anyway:badgerrock:
  20. Are you trying to define the point at which people turn into "motor reving at stoplights" douchebags? I don't know where that line is and what makes people want to cross it. It's not just the pipe, it's how these people chose to behave.
  21. Your cruiser is quiet, you ride within your limits and generally act like an adult, (from what I've seen anyway:D). If HD guys acted like this then I, and I suspect some at Myrtle Beach, would have no problem with them. I don't see too many metric cruisers doing stupid shit. And it's probably a smaller percentage of HD guys that do stupid shit. But I can't remember the last time I saw an HD with a factory pipe still on it. So I end up lumping almost all HD's together and not including metrics in that group. edit: Have you guys been to Daytona before? I can't imagine having that mess in my city. People would revolt against it like they're doing in Myrtle. The MotoGP races hads a lot of bikes, but few HD's. I never heard of any traffic, noise, public drinking or public sex act issues with the crowd at all. Think it'd be the same if we had a huge Harley event in Indy?
