  1. @motocat12 Yes, this is exactly it. STG suggested staying above 21psi on the rear tire, which I did but what I am reading on the reddit you posted and several other locations is that this tire just cannot handle a high track pace which seems to be confirmed by Michelin. The tire is basically tearing itself apart at the connection point between the two compounds and looking exactly like a geometry tear. I found a few instances of this in some of Dave Mosses videos and he basically said the tire was not matched to the riders pace.
  2. In theory, when you lower the pressure, you increase the surface area of the tire on the ground and increase the heat generated into the carcass. It may also allow the carcass to flex more which generates heat. I suspected I had cold tear which is when the carcass is not hot enough so I lowered the pressure. The left side of my tire gives a better idea of what may be cold tear, geometry issue, too hard rebound setting, or all of the above. The right side of the tire is destroyed beyond telling what happened so I am mostly focused on the left side. Check out the Tire Wear Guide under “Track is Crack” it has a lot of good information to start.
  3. In the Dave Moss video you posted, my tire looks almost exactly like what is at 2:30 which he says is a geometry cold tear. One thing I do when I get off the bike after every session, is I put my hand on the tire to see how warm it is. If I can comfortably leave my hand on their, it is not up to temp. With this tire wear, I would put my hand on the tire and it barely felt warm. i think with hot tear, your tire carcass needs to be somewhere near 200 degrees.
  4. Slow time of year for the track section of this forum so I figured there may be some people on here able to help me think through my tire wear issue (I read the sticky). I completely destroyed my rear tire during customer appreciation day at Mid-Ohio. It was about 55 degrees and windy and I had tire warmers which were having trouble keeping hot in the wind (they are very old). The tires are Michelin Power RS and I have had good performance out of them in the past. I normally run them around 28 psi but I had them at 24 for the cold temps. I didn’t get the chance to get any lower on the pressure because the tires were ruined before I could go out again. The pictures look to me like the worst cold tear I have ever seen but looking around at other riders who were not using warmers, they were not having this problem so I thought it could be suspension related. I attached a picture of my sag numbers. I was thinking either my suspension was too soft and not letting the tire get up temp (only felt warm to the touch when I got off the bike) or my rebound was too stiff (16 clicks out on stock TTX shock). The other option would be to just get a better set of tire warmers but it just doesn’t feel like that was the issue. Both the front and the rear suspension was refreshed last year. The bike is a ’14 D675R
  5. Did the cost of Mid-O track days go up for 2021? They didn’t have a very good showing last year and I don’t think they did any improvements. Feels like it should go down as the track gets worse.
  6. Looking at the WERA link, it appears they do not separate 600 and 1000 bikes during the race. Maybe I am reading it incorrectly.
  7. At Nelson Ledges, why do they split up the 600cc and 750+ bikes during practice but not in the races? Looks like they combine the classes.
  8. Can’t say I have seen someone use just one lever guard before.
  9. Looks like it is going to be 60 degrees. With as slick as this track is normally, I would think that temp would be a factor. Anyone have experience riding there at these temps?
  10. All the bike requirements are in their website. I think you just have to remove your license plate and cover your glass. Also, no oil filters with a nut on the top.
  11. Yes, I had a buddy stop out last year to see if he wanted to try track riding. He had a high end camera and they let him wander all over the place and use the photographer cutouts. They even gave him suggestions on where to take some good pics.
  12. Finally got a picture of myself on track. Definitely need to work on body position but now I think I look as cool as I feel when I am riding. Haha.
  13. Went to Putnam this past weekend and had a blast. That track is really nice compared to where I usually ride (Mid-O). Was able to get through the race school so hopefully I can try out a race next year.
  14. If they let me sign up but didn’t take the cert if something came up, I would definitely sign up every Tuesday.
  15. I am a frequent rider and would rather use my ability to sign up late than lose my cert because of rain. Also, the website states “ All sessions will run rain or shine” I don’t see anything about cancelling because of low enrollment and I didn’t see it when I purchased the certs.
  16. Looks like you had a good day for it. I was planning on Sunday and Tuesday but they cancelled both.
  17. I can understand them cancelling for low enrollment but they sell gift certificates that expire so the sessions should already have some built in cushion in case people don’t show. It really sucks for people coming in from out of town but I had to convince my wife to waste a day of her vacation to watch the kids so I could go to the track. Try convincing your significant other to do that, haha, it’s rare when it happens. What really ground my gears was that they blasted out an email to everyone on their email list telling them there was a track day and that they needed to sign up by sending an email to Gwen because the site wasn’t working. Then when it was cancelled, they didn’t blast out another email saying it was’t happening. Also, if you can’t sign up on the website and you are not a frequent rider, you would not know to email Gwen so you have to show up the day of to sign up. They also are not taking calls from what I can tell so they had no idea how many people they where screwing over. if any of you know the mid-o folks, please politely let them know how f’d up that was.
  18. Well, showed up to the track day today and it was cancelled. Would be nice if they would tell people that.
  19. I think most people run them flush with a stock setup but the attack triples have a different offset. With that and the attack bottom link, the geometry changes a good bit. You are definitely right about preparing for the turn early, that is something I need to work on. I just like to pick the bike up and keep my body low coming out of turns and that usually involves me moving my knee on the tank a bit. I’m just going to have to get better at setting up my position correctly the first time and not adjusting.
  20. Yes, I worked with GPR yo get them to make a fit kit for the Attack Performance triple clamp with the GSG steering stop. It looks like a tumor sticking up from the stem but I kindof like it. I took the body work back off and installed the track fairings. First track day was June 9th and it was great. The bike doesn’t have any more speed than my 600rr but it gets up to speed quicker and turns much sharper. My body position was absolute crap the entire time partly because I am out of practice and partly because I installed some really sticky tank grips. When I lean into a turn, my leg is absolutely glued to the tank, no chance for adjusting without making a major movement of my lower body. I like some grip but I also like to be able to lean more if I need and you just can’t do that with these grips.
  21. That’s a pretty bike. Determining the value of these is difficult and really the best way, as stated before, is eBay sold listings. The exhaust on that bike alone is $2000. If you are looking for a deal, check local auctions or work with someone that doesn’t have a 4 into 4 exhaust. Barn finds are typically not worth your time. I purchased a barn fresh 72 CB750 to build my CR750 and I have literally replaced everything except the frame. You are a few dollars ahead finding one that needs some work but is in generally good condition.
  22. I finished putting all the track goodies on, rebuilding the suspension, and changing the tires. I was debating just leaving it track only but with the ‘rona virus, I decided it would probably be best to prep it for the street. Doesn’t sound like track days are going to start on time this year, I hope they startup at some point. Here’s a time lapse video, sorry about the messy shop
  23. I am sure this is a nice setup but it is more than I am willing to put into changing tires.
  24. I actually purchased Mojo blocks, not sure why I called them no mar
