I totally agree that you need to teach your children about the guns. I was a cop for 20 years and guns were in our house and our son and daughter. I took our kids out to my wife's parent's farm. I took the most rotten watermelon and placed it on a pile of wood. I used the biggest load in my 357 mag (this was before cops started using semi autos) could take. When I shot the melon it exploded. I then explained to them that if someone is shot with a gun it isn't like a TV, the person will not get up. They will die. Then I taught them gun safety, how to handle a gun, when to shoot and when not to. I didn't leave our guns laying around for their easy access. They were kept locked up. Our son was 12 at the time and our daughter was 10. They are now in their 30's and we never had a problem with our guns. They now own guns and are teaching their kids like I taught them.
