  1. Buy a warm, windproof jacket and gloves and keep riding. My work commute is about 20 mins and I can handle it with unheated gear down to freezing temperature. I'm not a die-hard year-rounder but we have nice enough days to ride at least once every couple of weeks all winter. After a couple of rides in the mid 30s, 50o feels pretty nice!

  3. When the brine or road salt is distributed on the road, just forget it till springtime after a couple of hard rains wash it away. That stuff gets in everywhere and everything on a bike. It's bad enough to want to get a beater bike for riding in the winter.

  4. i'm thinking about getting heated gear but that would require me to actually ride in the very cold and let's not kid ourselves... i'm too old and too soft for that shit now

  5. Ninja 400 is as capable as the RC390, but it won't blow up like the KTM.

  6. All I know is the first word in my races I enter start with LWT aka Lightweight

  7. Interesting, I thought the SV was in kind of a special place, not quite a middleweight, but not a lightweight either. I'd rather learn to carry speed into a corner than rely on pure HP to compensate for lack of skill. Something for me to think about... so much about a lightweight appeals to me, including keeping it streetable for fun times.

  10. If it carborated I'd use the stabilizer in the gas. FI bikes your fine. Only because the small amount of gas in float bowl can turn and evaporate quicker. In a sealed system its good for many many months. If a FI bike will be stored for maybe 6 months or more, yeah use it there too. But no, it won't hurt either if you need piece of mind.

  11. I was said ride leader. It didn’t start off that way. In discussing a route I rattled of what I typically rode and I was nominated leader. I think it was like a turd in the punch bowl at first since I was the new guy on the scene. I followed it up with if you’re bored feel free to blow by and geared up. When @Uncle Punkblew by on 377 I thought, try to latch on. For just the reason he stated, to learn something. I started to focus on what was ahead and forget about what was behind me. When I lead I have a tendency to watch my mirror to make sure everyone is doing ok. After awhile of trying to catch up to the blur in front of me I checked my rear view and nobody was in sight. I chose to slow down because I saw nothing. I think I even stopped and thought about turning around. The first thing that popped in my mind was somebody had bike issues or went down because the other 3 riders were always in my rear view all day. Truthfully I had a flashback to the day Jim wrecked with me. After our discussion at the gas station, I would be fine in the future with breaking off. I’ve done it before in groups where I knew my pace was above others. I didn’t feel I was faster than anybody I was riding with last week. I can’t speak for any of the guys you’ve rode with in the past UP, but I was by no means pissed or offended. I hope to ride again with you in the future. I know next time to show up in full leathers with at least some Q3s mounted so I can try to at least keep your tail light in sight when you decide to roll.

  12. All that eco-friendly commuting destroyed by your water-heated digits. Shameful.

  13. Wash it. Put on center stand. Plug into tender. Make sure tank is atleast half full. That's it, it's always ready to ride. I'm not changing oil unless it's due. I'm not flushing fluids unless its due. I'm not removing the battery, that's what the tender is for. I'm not putting tires on wood blocks, that's silly. I'm not covering it up because that just invites critters to call it a home. We are parking them for maybe 4 months. Not like its a very long period of time. People way over think this. Only other thing ill do is put some fresh decon out in the garage.

  15. Clean it well. Remove battery and bring inside on a tender. Full gas tank with stabilizer. Change oil now or first thing in spring. Which is debatable. Park it and cover it. Do not start it in the winter for the hell of it. You will just create condensation inside the engine.

  16. Hopfully you see this tandem more next year. Think I've got the mrs. amped up a little to try some light touring next year on the Injun. She wants to make the gap trip next year and think she might ride it down(maybe)

  17. Kentucky your looking at Midwest trackdays at corvette museum. Ohio you have midohio school, lean at Nelson ledges and N2 at Nelson ledges and Pittsburgh. Honestly I would just ride the FZ for a day or 2, hell maybe more. See if you like it. Honestly it's mostly about the people you meet, except for the assholes I hang with.

  18. That is exactly where I was at with it. Mid-Ohio was awesome for a noob like me. Very structured novice program to keep you out of trouble, get you learning and still put a giant grin on your face.
