  1. As some of you know, I’ve been pretty distance on the forum over the last year or so. I sold my bikes, got married and this week I became a parent for the first time. Life has been hectic but hopefully 2021 i will be fortunate enough to get back into riding, back the way my riding began. Southeast Ohio day rides. I don’t see much long travels in the near future. Anyways, here is my new baby girl Karlie...

  2. Hey all. I'm planning to host at least one group ride a month next season. These rides will be very beginner friendly, but not at all boring. There are roads around here that are low traffic, decent pavement and good signage and sightlines. These are the roads upon which I built my fundamentals. I was privi to some very cool riders that were more than happy to offer help and correct mistakes before they became muscle memory. I still ride with a couple of these riders fifteen years later and we still have a great time. I want to invite you to that brotherhood. I am grateful for the friendships I have with these folks and the folks I have met on this board. I know we seem to be at each others throats this season. I am certainly in the camp of brown crayon mouth and letting shit get to me that I cannot control. No good ever comes from trying to bend the will of natural law. It's been a long, hard 6 months for me. For perspective, I rode almost 20k miles last season and even a couple work trips were taken on my Voyager. This year? Maybe a couple thousand? I have noticed the lack of time in my helmet equals less time for me to decompress and work shit out. My brain gets cramped with minutia and other people's bullshit. I enjoy life a little less. I am less grateful for what I have. I lose myself for too long. Riding is the treatment for what ails me. It forces me to focus on right now. Right here. If I blew a corner, I have to let it go. I can't think about the next corner, either. I have one two seconds from now that requires all of my focus. The only thing that matters when I am in "zoom" mode, is the here and now of Pauly's life. No distractions. I said that so I could say this.. I know three kind of new riders. The first rider is the one looking to become a better motorcyclist. They want to enjoy the sport. These are teachable riders. The slightly less teachable riders are the riders that can't check themselves and those that refuse to push themselves. All of these rider styles are welcome on these rides. I bet the title to my bike that I know something you don't that can change riding for you in a positive way. These rides will be focused on the new riders. They will be tailored to suit your comfort level so you can focus on fundamentals of street riding. If you wish to discuss your particular trouble areas before that day, feel free to PM me and we can chat about it. Whatever makes you more comfortable and able to focus on the task at hand. Riding changed my life for the better. I would like to help you along the same journey to being alone in your helmet. Disclaimer: The racetrack is the ideal environment to learn the fundamentals of street riding. I plan to ride this Monday. I am extending this invite to everyone, but take note that if a new rider RSVPs, the ride will be tailored to that rider. Feel free to PM me and RSVP in private, too. I am cool with whatever makes you less apprehensive. I am also willing to meet you where you are comfortable riding to, within the NEO limits. I can't be riding to Columbus or Dayton. Maybe someone from that region will start their own rides. Groups will be small, though. Large group rides are distracting enough for veteran riders. These are rides that can be done comfortably in jeans, boots, jacket, glove and a helmet. No land speed records are being set. Just a nice ride across some tasty curves to preferably somewhere not disgusting to have lunch, and back on the road for the home stretch. Nothing fancy. No bait and switch, either. I can guarantee no matter how fast the rest of the riders go, I will stay at your pace for as long as you feel comfortable. This has been a problem in the past and I feel too many new riders are left out due to one reason or another. I can't promise great weather, but I can promise crooked roads, tasty food and a relaxed pace. Lastly, as long as the doctors are recommending masks, I will be wearing one. You can do whatever you want, but please be courteous and respectful to me and other riders. Also, this is a ride. It is not a Biden/Trump death match and politics are verboten. I get enough of myself and the rest of you online. I do not care who you vote for. I care that you want to ride bikes. I hope to see you outside next season.

  3. Last year I went to India. There was a village close by which mainly depended on farming for livelihood. Unfortunately suffering from drought and no rain for few years. They were drifting into hardship and asking for help. I drove by found a suitable location, pretty good road loop nearby. Chose a good weekend date and posted an OR epic ride right there and then. Told the villagers to be ready for divine intervention. And exactly on the date of ride it started raining.crops sprout famine abolished kids playing harvest booming and Everyone lived happily ever after.

  4. Making OR Great Again Some of you may have noticed we are dying here. While there are many things we could do I think rides are what we need to do. But we need to do them differently. We usually post up a ride, tell the noob or slow person we will wait at each corner and don't worry......that isn't going to work. For several reasons. One, it's no damn fun for the slow person. They are basically riding on their own. So why not do that or find folks their own speed. Two, even though we say and mean we don't care how slow they are or how long we have to wait at each corner it still creates stress, worry... anxiety....whatever you want to call it. And they end up pushing themselves. Maybe not dangerously but certainly above their happy zone. I know this to be a fact because it happens to me every time I ride with you. And I was told this exact same thing by a long time member here just recently. So I will plan 4 or 5 rides this summer that will be slower rides and post them up. If you want to come and stay behind me cool. But you will not take off and go like hell and wait at corners and basically create the same situation. If you do, I will pair my Sena with you at the corner and shoot you. If 5 or 6 of us lead a few rides like this we will easily have 20+ sane social rides this season. Maybe shorter rides around the Atwood Lake area for example. And we will still have plenty of time to go like hell on other rides. Might help, might not. But the current course leads to a non existent OR by this time next year imnsho.

  6. We swapped bikes for a short bit on Monday. Before we took off he asked if I was prepared to spend $20k on a bike. I wasn't, but that ended up being irrelevant, because I spent the next 3 days searching for one. He and I zoomed to Nielsen Motorsports in Lake Villa, Illinois Friday night. We spooned all night, had Starbucks for breakfast and zoomed to the dealership Saturday when they opened. It was ready to roll, except for the system update Jim was prepared to install for me, but they jumped on it with the quickness. I got my tutorial from the salesman and some more pertinent pointers from Jim. Rode it 445 miles home yesterday and put another couple hundred on it today. It just keeps getting better. If you are in the market for a sport touring mount, then go look at one of these. Ride one before you write it off. This bike is incredibly nimble and can be pushed hard all day with little fatigue. It takes everything I can throw at it and just eats miles at speed with ease. The brakes are awesome. Six-piston front calipers and 320mm dual discs stop this thing in its tracks. The new front end is the shining star of the bike, but the flat-6 and delicious exhaust note are nice touch. Also, Honda is offering .9%/60 month financing on leftover 2018 models for the rest of this month. That made the decision a little easier for me.

  7. Covid thread. I told them my vaccine turned my penis into a mutated baby hammerhead shark. They banned me for the weekend to "think about what I've done" and when they unbanned me I told them to basically go fuck themselves.

  19. This was not how I imagined the last few days in Ohio to be. I was hoping to meet and ride with every awesome folks i met through our the years. I think it will be safe for me to brag that I have met with most number of OR folks and rode with them over the years than the rest of you all. Not just group rides but through PMs and all have met with those “shy” OR Members who don’t post much but still wanted to give group rides a chance etc. From that collection of over 150 active riders spread 10 yrs only like 30 active folks left. And will miss you all and these roads (not this weather) I am not exaggerating but being honest when I say most of you folks has been closest to family and friends for me. I might not show it in words and deeds since I am socially awkward but truly appreciate that OR existed and got the chance to meet and ride with you all. I still wished I could meet few more regular OR peeps who I never got to meet. End of April I finish work here, I had taken 40 days off and was planning to travel with family. We been planning for these days for almost a year as this is the first true extended holiday we were getting. But alas things have changed completely. Timed my move from Ohio around May 15 so I would have 2 free weeks to meet and ride with you all again in these amazing roads once more before I left. Alas that opportunity is in question as well. I was hoping to post one last epic ride thread, hoping to have a multiday WV tour, was hoping to hit the track once more before I left. All plans got sidelined. But I will still Try to do a “social distance friendly ride” with at least few of you before I pack up. As long as we stay in our bike fully geared and ride safe without risk of crash I still vouch for motorcycling during these times, but then again I am biased. To communicate we can stay far away and use our Sena right Tonik hope you guys still continue with the gap trips, I hope to make it there at the same time. May be another Marion Virginia 3 day trip, that’s a spot we can meet and explore lot of good roads. Anyways just 20ish days left and the nostalgia is too much to handle, deep down I am a romantic I guess. Most of all I really miss Jerry. I know it would have been a difficult good bye with him, but we already did that part Been watching lot of video of rides we did together, dayuuum those were some good times. I started tying out personal goodbye to folks in this thread and that became too huge too long. Delete, trim. Will just text you all asshats 😆 Hope to see and ride with you all some day again soon. 👍 Ride on Ride safe

  20. Yes the virus doesn’t seem that scary if you are young and healthy. but if you or your loved ones are weak, older, have comorbid diseases, immunocompromised this virus is deadly on them. Near 50% fatality for such folks. the virus spreads crazy fast, you will be okay, but you will carry this to someone who will die. Always look at this way, all the talk about quarantine and social isolation etc is not for just for you. but for others who might die because you carried it to them. panic and wrong information definitely is not the answer. Preparing for “walking dead” scenario is not the answer. Only thing to do is take proper and adequate precaution. This is to delay spread. Sooner or later everyone going to get it if this lingers around. Just don’t want it to happen all together by being stupid. humans are flawed and society cannot survive without interaction, hence it will eventually spread, it will be around for a while etc, but at least if the rate is slowed down the hospital And health care won’t be taxed to its limit. we don’t want a situation to arise where 50 sick ones show up together in a span of few days with only 20 ventilators available. no body wants their grandma’s plug pulled some of the main players are poor respiratory condition, things like smoking copd asthma obesity etc are known entity. Imagine how the US population looks like a tasty treat for this virus. but If anarchy and systemic cleansing is what we are after this is the perfect answer. Darwinian law of survival of the fit and strong and able. If this spreads like crazy the society will be forged in fire, all the old weak and wilting will be weeded away and only the young and strong survive to forge a new beginning. And all of this will happen despite how many toilet rolls we have in our storage.

  25. Last Friday was my last day of employment. After the weekend, I've now spent 2 days as an official retiree and I think I'm going to like it. I bumped the date ahead by 7 weeks from my original plan because my (now former) employer had put me on the road in Holland, MI for 19 weeks since early March with no end in sight. After 80 nights in a hotel, the manager gave me a gift bag and a card signed by all the staff. That's how you can tell you've been on the road too long. I have 2 cars that have been asking for attention - just routine maintenance. And the yard is a mess - I was able to keep it mowed, but nothing else. THEN I can get back to finishing my bike engine swap and hopefully start riding again for the fall season. Hope to meet you guys on the road!

  31. Day 3 We ran a version of Tonik’s route today. We had a little bit of rain, but nothing too serious. Definitely beat on the Concours today and made a CBR style run on the skyway once we hit dry pavement. Definitely the best day of the trip, 437miles.

  34. I took my usual route down to Zanesville and headed out 146. Jumped on 284 south, it was in bad shape from mowing and storm debris, plus a lot of gravel. Took 78 to 536 south. The first 2/3rds of 536 was nice, after that there were two spots that were one lane from construction. Stopped at the locks in Hannibal and then headed north on 800. 350 miles for the day. The bike turned over 95,000 miles today.

  35. I just want to take a moment to thank @TimTheAzn and @Jester_ for pulling into track days after nearly 9 -10 yrs since last track day. Without tim making the day easy to sign up and join etc i would never have been able to join. Whats with these asian guys helping you to make your first track day easy - must be a culture thing. Hi ... How you doing.... let’s go for a track day ? ( @jbot ) Last year end on a cold fall day got to do one in PIRC. Wanted to do one more with you guys before i left But i couldnt. But i really enjoyed the day, less stressful and lot of fun all because you guys and big timmy and others where there. And i went ahead and did one more this summer here in NC and just wanted to share a brief write up. Even for this one, tim made it easy by arranging sign up all the way from ohio short review of track day day I did before the blistering summer heat started. This first para for who ever dont want to read big wall of text: I will never be a track junkie , will always enjoy street ride. I don’t have the competitive edge or aggressiveness or the desire for high velocity straights, but corners.... man corners I love them. And the big difference is i think i will slow way down in the streets and enjoy the destination and travel and leave the speed and adrenaline to the track where it was safer. Is track costly, repetitive and boring for a street touring fan, yes if you look at it that way. But if you look at it in a way where you pay speeding ticket money up front for a max speed licence and pushing your limit with as much protection as possible. Exorcism of your speed demon in a chapel meant for it. Big win long version The track : NCCar is all about smooth flat rounded ones. There are tricky ones like double apex decreasing ones and my favorite an almost 360 non stop circle. A very high horse power liter bike friendly track. Covid difference: I can almost say this was perfect place to be for a covid time entertainment. every one is restricted to their own individual canopy spaced at least 10 feets apart and carrying your own food. The rider meeting was open space short and spread out. Few including me still wore a mask and plus the quintessential funny look due to that from few. Otherwise there is never a moment where you interact or have contact with others, except the bathrooms where you have to be careful. The rider: The bike handled so beautifully that after couple warm up session I am literally passing everyone in novice without even trying. Esp on the outside of the long 360. (the only place where they allowed corner passing) Destroyed the pucks by the end of the day, again remember I am no track junkie and this technically first track day in a year and first time in this track in this bike. Still the bike gave me so much confidence and it’s so fluid. Body position is difficult compared to full sports bike but manageable. Race tuck and straight ways I will need suspension adjusted for me and a heavy oil mod for steering dampener. A set of adjustable rear set might help, I was able to improve my bad habit of toes sticking out a bit by the end of the day still not 100% confident in these rubber pegs and still dragging end of toe sliders. The bike: Tires full grip from power cup2 front and Michelin GP rear. Pics of the tires at the end of the day attached. Ran a higher cold pressure of 31 33 and it still gripped well and didn’t get destroyed. No mechanical issue, heating never went above 4 bars. The small screen definitely helps me. Brakes never faded but I hardly used it except for the long straights. But thats mainly due to the track layout. Everywhere else it was almost throttle play to keep it smooth. QS works best in this high speed high rpm Environment. Flips through the corners Easy, transition in S turns is a breeze, late brake into corners inside other high power bike and still no panic and can make the corner without running wide. All in all, makes it enjoyable and not intimidating to do a track day. Logistics: just a short word on this, bike is so light that this is the first bike I felt comfortable loading on to the back of truck. Very easy to just push it around and work with it. At the end of the day when your dead tired this was quite helpful. Final verdict: this bike just went from 10/10 in my favorite list to 11/10. it made me love something I never thought I would like, ... track days. Now I am kind of hooked. Definitely this bike made it a very enjoyable experience. Will be making at least a handful of track days if schedule and budget allows.

  39. Hope every ones doing okay, Sorry was not active here much, but the one place I didn’t want to talk “work” was here and the discussion were more intense here than at work lol Either ways I suspect me wife and kid had the infection about 2-3 weeks ago. All symptoms fit at that time the rapid tests were not available. The first week was real bad to the point I almost felt like going to the hospital, but gradually improved. I got swabbed and quarantined but test came back negative . I continued quarantine for few more days until symptoms got better 99% but had to go back to work Eventually since lack of staff to cover. I still maintained “social distancing” as much as possible. Fortunately being kidney doc, 95% decisions can be made based on labs and tests. And I was able to avoid direct patient contact for couple more weeks. I probably will get antibody tested just to reassure myself. But at this point all bets are off with this disease with people reporting tons of stuff based on half baked research which drowns out proper research. Now a days there are two kinds of healthcare workers, ones who takes care of covid patients and ones who give interviews. I see lot of docs online and in tv dishing out advises and information. Literally only 10% of the them actually took care of patients. Most of them have no business shelling out advises. Been talking to colleagues from various places. Depending on where you work the attitude and reality is different. I have over heard ophthalmologist in physician lounge complain to the ENT guy that this is all a media hoax, Ian the same hospital where we just lost a 50 ish healthy guy to covid that morning. If I was more of an in your face guy I would have shoved him to the wards and asked to take a walk around rather sit in his cocoon passing judgement and conspiracy theories . Any ways over the weeks things have slowed down. As of now ground reality for me at least, as expected from numbers cases from general public in the two hospitals i cover slowed down. The ones coming in are not aggressive and sick etc. I believe this is because of social distancing. I say this because the third hospital covers for prison population and nearly more than half the ICU beds are filled up with prisoners with covid. The one place where they cannot social distance effectively. This makes me wonder what will happen Come May if they lift social distancing completely. Step by step reopening might be okay. Opening up restaurant, malls and other “socializing and mass gathering areas” to be delayed perhaps. the disease is less understood, the progression and variability and questionable strains all make this one of the most challenging times to deal with. I completely understand the tough situation some folks are in due to lack of work minimal savings and difficult survival. Where to strike a balance is difficult. Hopeful gradual ease back of non essentials will be the key. hope everyone and family is staying safe.
