  1. DATE: July 2, 2018 Ok guys and gals, we are going to do something for 1st and possibly 2nd timers (people who are new to track riding) the opportunity to do this day for free (in terms of track costs.) Back in 2016 @RHill (Ryan Hill) offered me a Mid-Ohio gift certificate so I could come out and ride the track the same day he was there ( I was a little tight on money at that particular time). I accepted this gracious offer and was going to pay him back with another cert the following year. Unfortunately I was never able to repay Ryan as he unexpectedly passed away that October. I'm not sure if I've ever met someone with the passion this guy had for all things track days and motorcycles. He was the first one to lend a hand and wanted everyone to have a good time. He was a staple in the paddock and is missed immensely. Since I was not able to pay him back, and I knew his passion for sharing his passion with other people., I am going to be giving away a Mid-Ohio gift certificate to a new track rider who would like to join us. I would prefer that person to be at least a member of OR since this is where details about this day will be posted etc. So if you had someone that was thinking about joining us for this epic day and is not a member, get them to sign up and post in here! You will have to let me know if this is going to be your 1st or 2nd time on track and I will keep a list of names and will draw a random number to determine the winner. No strings attached, and it's on the honor system in terms of how new you are to the track. I can't wait to get out there with you guys (since I wasn't able to ride at the OR day last year). Cert Giveaway List: 1. bowdog 2. JustinNck1 3. Killer_kaw 4. Wojo72 5. max_power 6. jhalls 7. Crazy Skull Crusher (Winner!) 8. amshort13 9. wolfeman28

  2. Lunch at Coal House BBQ. Then the fun part of 119, then 421, 80 and 550. Hammer down on 550 I see a deer running up the hillside....so I shut it down hard figuring there are more....and signal everyone behind me. Crest the hill and there is a doe and her few days old fawn in the middle of the road. Full on ABS...the fawn freezes so I dove right. That moved the fawn left where it froze again and found itself staring at the front tire of an MT10 that stopped 2 feet short of it. That fawn should now understand the value of ABS. I know Jamie and I do. So we start to accelerate and are still going slow and around the corner comes a cop. So we saved that fawns life, and it for sure saved us tickets. Win win.

  4. As some of you know, I’ve been pretty distance on the forum over the last year or so. I sold my bikes, got married and this week I became a parent for the first time. Life has been hectic but hopefully 2021 i will be fortunate enough to get back into riding, back the way my riding began. Southeast Ohio day rides. I don’t see much long travels in the near future. Anyways, here is my new baby girl Karlie...

  5. Hey all. I'm planning to host at least one group ride a month next season. These rides will be very beginner friendly, but not at all boring. There are roads around here that are low traffic, decent pavement and good signage and sightlines. These are the roads upon which I built my fundamentals. I was privi to some very cool riders that were more than happy to offer help and correct mistakes before they became muscle memory. I still ride with a couple of these riders fifteen years later and we still have a great time. I want to invite you to that brotherhood. I am grateful for the friendships I have with these folks and the folks I have met on this board. I know we seem to be at each others throats this season. I am certainly in the camp of brown crayon mouth and letting shit get to me that I cannot control. No good ever comes from trying to bend the will of natural law. It's been a long, hard 6 months for me. For perspective, I rode almost 20k miles last season and even a couple work trips were taken on my Voyager. This year? Maybe a couple thousand? I have noticed the lack of time in my helmet equals less time for me to decompress and work shit out. My brain gets cramped with minutia and other people's bullshit. I enjoy life a little less. I am less grateful for what I have. I lose myself for too long. Riding is the treatment for what ails me. It forces me to focus on right now. Right here. If I blew a corner, I have to let it go. I can't think about the next corner, either. I have one two seconds from now that requires all of my focus. The only thing that matters when I am in "zoom" mode, is the here and now of Pauly's life. No distractions. I said that so I could say this.. I know three kind of new riders. The first rider is the one looking to become a better motorcyclist. They want to enjoy the sport. These are teachable riders. The slightly less teachable riders are the riders that can't check themselves and those that refuse to push themselves. All of these rider styles are welcome on these rides. I bet the title to my bike that I know something you don't that can change riding for you in a positive way. These rides will be focused on the new riders. They will be tailored to suit your comfort level so you can focus on fundamentals of street riding. If you wish to discuss your particular trouble areas before that day, feel free to PM me and we can chat about it. Whatever makes you more comfortable and able to focus on the task at hand. Riding changed my life for the better. I would like to help you along the same journey to being alone in your helmet. Disclaimer: The racetrack is the ideal environment to learn the fundamentals of street riding. I plan to ride this Monday. I am extending this invite to everyone, but take note that if a new rider RSVPs, the ride will be tailored to that rider. Feel free to PM me and RSVP in private, too. I am cool with whatever makes you less apprehensive. I am also willing to meet you where you are comfortable riding to, within the NEO limits. I can't be riding to Columbus or Dayton. Maybe someone from that region will start their own rides. Groups will be small, though. Large group rides are distracting enough for veteran riders. These are rides that can be done comfortably in jeans, boots, jacket, glove and a helmet. No land speed records are being set. Just a nice ride across some tasty curves to preferably somewhere not disgusting to have lunch, and back on the road for the home stretch. Nothing fancy. No bait and switch, either. I can guarantee no matter how fast the rest of the riders go, I will stay at your pace for as long as you feel comfortable. This has been a problem in the past and I feel too many new riders are left out due to one reason or another. I can't promise great weather, but I can promise crooked roads, tasty food and a relaxed pace. Lastly, as long as the doctors are recommending masks, I will be wearing one. You can do whatever you want, but please be courteous and respectful to me and other riders. Also, this is a ride. It is not a Biden/Trump death match and politics are verboten. I get enough of myself and the rest of you online. I do not care who you vote for. I care that you want to ride bikes. I hope to see you outside next season.

  6. Last year I went to India. There was a village close by which mainly depended on farming for livelihood. Unfortunately suffering from drought and no rain for few years. They were drifting into hardship and asking for help. I drove by found a suitable location, pretty good road loop nearby. Chose a good weekend date and posted an OR epic ride right there and then. Told the villagers to be ready for divine intervention. And exactly on the date of ride it started raining.crops sprout famine abolished kids playing harvest booming and Everyone lived happily ever after.

  7. Making OR Great Again Some of you may have noticed we are dying here. While there are many things we could do I think rides are what we need to do. But we need to do them differently. We usually post up a ride, tell the noob or slow person we will wait at each corner and don't worry......that isn't going to work. For several reasons. One, it's no damn fun for the slow person. They are basically riding on their own. So why not do that or find folks their own speed. Two, even though we say and mean we don't care how slow they are or how long we have to wait at each corner it still creates stress, worry... anxiety....whatever you want to call it. And they end up pushing themselves. Maybe not dangerously but certainly above their happy zone. I know this to be a fact because it happens to me every time I ride with you. And I was told this exact same thing by a long time member here just recently. So I will plan 4 or 5 rides this summer that will be slower rides and post them up. If you want to come and stay behind me cool. But you will not take off and go like hell and wait at corners and basically create the same situation. If you do, I will pair my Sena with you at the corner and shoot you. If 5 or 6 of us lead a few rides like this we will easily have 20+ sane social rides this season. Maybe shorter rides around the Atwood Lake area for example. And we will still have plenty of time to go like hell on other rides. Might help, might not. But the current course leads to a non existent OR by this time next year imnsho.

  9. We swapped bikes for a short bit on Monday. Before we took off he asked if I was prepared to spend $20k on a bike. I wasn't, but that ended up being irrelevant, because I spent the next 3 days searching for one. He and I zoomed to Nielsen Motorsports in Lake Villa, Illinois Friday night. We spooned all night, had Starbucks for breakfast and zoomed to the dealership Saturday when they opened. It was ready to roll, except for the system update Jim was prepared to install for me, but they jumped on it with the quickness. I got my tutorial from the salesman and some more pertinent pointers from Jim. Rode it 445 miles home yesterday and put another couple hundred on it today. It just keeps getting better. If you are in the market for a sport touring mount, then go look at one of these. Ride one before you write it off. This bike is incredibly nimble and can be pushed hard all day with little fatigue. It takes everything I can throw at it and just eats miles at speed with ease. The brakes are awesome. Six-piston front calipers and 320mm dual discs stop this thing in its tracks. The new front end is the shining star of the bike, but the flat-6 and delicious exhaust note are nice touch. Also, Honda is offering .9%/60 month financing on leftover 2018 models for the rest of this month. That made the decision a little easier for me.

  10. Covid thread. I told them my vaccine turned my penis into a mutated baby hammerhead shark. They banned me for the weekend to "think about what I've done" and when they unbanned me I told them to basically go fuck themselves.

  17. Actually my first new vehicle ever. 2018 Suzuki gsxs1000f in black and blue. First order of business will be a fender delete kit to get rid of the ugly hang-down. Was gonna put a yosh slip-on on it but from everything I've read it wont sound any different because all the muffling action goes on inside the cat/exhaust chamber, plus the stock can looks fine. I'm pretty stoked to have not only something brand new and shiny and unmolested, but also to have such a fine piece of street machinery. Gonna be a challenge to keep it under 5k for the break in period. Really looking forward to getting it on the track this July. Also, I NEED to sell the bandit. Now. Yesterday. Running out of room in the garage. Also could use $2500 right about now. Many pics to follow once I get it home.

  24. Apologies for the delay. Didn't get in and unloaded until about 11pm last night and fell asleep pretty soon there after. Thank you everyone for coming out. Again, I apologize for all the delays in the planning and the weather that caused us to postpone to the rain date (again). I don't think we could have asked for better riding conditions than we got yesterday! Special thanks to those who lead/swept the other groups. Without you, the rides can't happen and you guys set the pace and make sure everyone else is setup for success. You are the heart and soul of these rides and I can't thank you enough. Another special thank you to the anonymous donor of the pizza/soda after the event. One of the best parts of this ride is the camaraderie we all get to have as a result. Always awesome to get to sit down and relax after a taxing ride in the twisties, enjoy some food and laugh and love through the common thing we all share, motorcycles. Before the event, I really thought this might be the last Epic Ride I would organize because I 'thought' it had lost a bit of interest, but it's a friendly reminder of how wrong I am. Everyone seems to cherish this ride and the ability to bring new riders in and give new forum members a good avenue to introduce themselves to the group. As always, anyone who has any recommendations to making this ride any better, please feel free to comment below. I'm always down to listening to constructive criticism and implementing suggestions on improving. I'm already looking forward to the next Epic Ride in the Fall. Thanks again to everyone who was able to attend. Group Photo (courtesy of @r6obey)

  33. This was not how I imagined the last few days in Ohio to be. I was hoping to meet and ride with every awesome folks i met through our the years. I think it will be safe for me to brag that I have met with most number of OR folks and rode with them over the years than the rest of you all. Not just group rides but through PMs and all have met with those “shy” OR Members who don’t post much but still wanted to give group rides a chance etc. From that collection of over 150 active riders spread 10 yrs only like 30 active folks left. And will miss you all and these roads (not this weather) I am not exaggerating but being honest when I say most of you folks has been closest to family and friends for me. I might not show it in words and deeds since I am socially awkward but truly appreciate that OR existed and got the chance to meet and ride with you all. I still wished I could meet few more regular OR peeps who I never got to meet. End of April I finish work here, I had taken 40 days off and was planning to travel with family. We been planning for these days for almost a year as this is the first true extended holiday we were getting. But alas things have changed completely. Timed my move from Ohio around May 15 so I would have 2 free weeks to meet and ride with you all again in these amazing roads once more before I left. Alas that opportunity is in question as well. I was hoping to post one last epic ride thread, hoping to have a multiday WV tour, was hoping to hit the track once more before I left. All plans got sidelined. But I will still Try to do a “social distance friendly ride” with at least few of you before I pack up. As long as we stay in our bike fully geared and ride safe without risk of crash I still vouch for motorcycling during these times, but then again I am biased. To communicate we can stay far away and use our Sena right Tonik hope you guys still continue with the gap trips, I hope to make it there at the same time. May be another Marion Virginia 3 day trip, that’s a spot we can meet and explore lot of good roads. Anyways just 20ish days left and the nostalgia is too much to handle, deep down I am a romantic I guess. Most of all I really miss Jerry. I know it would have been a difficult good bye with him, but we already did that part Been watching lot of video of rides we did together, dayuuum those were some good times. I started tying out personal goodbye to folks in this thread and that became too huge too long. Delete, trim. Will just text you all asshats 😆 Hope to see and ride with you all some day again soon. 👍 Ride on Ride safe

  34. Yes the virus doesn’t seem that scary if you are young and healthy. but if you or your loved ones are weak, older, have comorbid diseases, immunocompromised this virus is deadly on them. Near 50% fatality for such folks. the virus spreads crazy fast, you will be okay, but you will carry this to someone who will die. Always look at this way, all the talk about quarantine and social isolation etc is not for just for you. but for others who might die because you carried it to them. panic and wrong information definitely is not the answer. Preparing for “walking dead” scenario is not the answer. Only thing to do is take proper and adequate precaution. This is to delay spread. Sooner or later everyone going to get it if this lingers around. Just don’t want it to happen all together by being stupid. humans are flawed and society cannot survive without interaction, hence it will eventually spread, it will be around for a while etc, but at least if the rate is slowed down the hospital And health care won’t be taxed to its limit. we don’t want a situation to arise where 50 sick ones show up together in a span of few days with only 20 ventilators available. no body wants their grandma’s plug pulled some of the main players are poor respiratory condition, things like smoking copd asthma obesity etc are known entity. Imagine how the US population looks like a tasty treat for this virus. but If anarchy and systemic cleansing is what we are after this is the perfect answer. Darwinian law of survival of the fit and strong and able. If this spreads like crazy the society will be forged in fire, all the old weak and wilting will be weeded away and only the young and strong survive to forge a new beginning. And all of this will happen despite how many toilet rolls we have in our storage.

  37. I am finally home. I have ridden 7 days in a row, for a total of more than 3k miles. The Whale now has over 75k miles and I am scheduled to be in northern Georgia next week. If the weather looks good, I will ride it versus taking the car. In the meantime, I fly to California tomorrow for a quick minute and am excited to not be driving or piloting anything to get there. Physically fine. Mentally exhausted.

  41. Just wanted something with two up comfort but still lighter. Went against my notion of buying new compared to always picking up used. This comes with everything that I usually spend more on all the time. ABS, Bags, center stand, heated grips and added bonus of cruise. I know most of you guys gonna laugh at me when I say last bike for a long time. But it is, all the time I kept experimenting with different bikes since I loved riding plus the machine. All bikes I tried were vastly different from each other from engine to ergonomics to weight. Tracer Gt is like a culmination of all the good things I loved. Last bike since I won’t be putting Many miles on this, this is mostly for social aspect of riding more than the adrenaline endorphins aspect which I always associated with bikes. Bought new since it will like sit with me less miles for longer duration. Favorite engine : triple / enough power/ enough torque comfortable ergonomics: Vstrom like ideal bike weight for flick and tour for my size around 470lb Unique sound: not as sweet as VFR V4 like, but CP triple comes very close. Hopefully I will become just a simple bike show, parade riding like guy just puttzing around with this bike for a long time rather than the prodigal waster with his legs deep into coffin waiting for the right push

  44. I have talked about riding to the west coast and back forever! I always make excuses to not go. Too expensive, take too long, the bike might break down, I might need tires part way. No more! I am 58 and could fucking drop dead tomorrow. The only thing that can stop me is the money. As long as we can swing that I am going this summer. I figure 2 to 3 weeks. My plan is hit the Badlands and other places going west to eventually ride the pacific coast. Then head east across the Southwest. Not sure if I want head up to Colorado or just stay south. My sister has lived in the San Fran area for 30 years and I have never been out. Figured I’d stop and bother her while I am out there. I have a cousin out there that says he is going to Sturgis this year. I want to go to Sturgis, once. Need to plan for a couple of days there. I plan on trying to camp, as much as possible. I already have all the gear for that.

  47. Trump is hated mostly by the 2 political "gangs", simply because he is truly an outsider. That man is no GOP, career politician, nor is he a democrat, he ran the GOP platform simply because there is currently no chance for an independent to have a fair opportunity at winning "he beat the corrupt system". Trump is a leader for sure, you don't however have to agree with his tactics. I say again, actions/results speak louder than words, and Trump is toying and playing with so many people it is comical. We forget that we have had many non PC presidents in the past, and I most certainly don't care what anybody from another country "and in particular here" thinks negatively about my country. It is bout time for "America first", he is the American President not the world President, and no other country will EVER do more than the USA does for helping others. Getting shit done isn't always fair, hell nothing in life is fair nor is it guaranteed. We have so many government dependent people in this country it is beyond embarrassing, and more than not are just playing the system because they can. Those are multitudes of voters for the democratic party, and the democratic politicians know fully well how to continue baiting them all in for votes. Emotions, outrage, feelings, free shit..........there is your liberal progressive voting base, those will be the first people to go should we have a massive natural disaster or man made attack which changes life how we currently know it. I am a YUUUUGE Trump supporter and I make no apologies for it, he is the President this country has desperately needed for a very long time. We will find out soon a little bit more how deep the deep state is, and there will be heads rolling for sure. Trump is draining that swamp folks, and those who actually know him say he is brilliant and scary smart. Love him, hate him, loathe him.....we will ALL benefit from his Presidency. Corrupt politicians from both sides are running scared, the deep state is running scared......TRUMP is coming for them.
