  1. Rode it to work. When I got home I had an hour to change the rear tire. I managed to get the tire mounted and clean up the swingarm before I went to watch my daughters' volleyball games. Tomorrow I hope swap out the front tire before another volleyball game. I got 6000 miles out of pilot road 2s. That's 3 times the mileage I got out of a set Q3s. I'm giving Roadsmart 3s a shot this time. I could not pass up the $100 rebate and the stellar price Mike @RidersDiscount gave me.

  2. good turnout, but a bad race for me. I got a little overconfident and tried to stay with the "sport" class pack. Not the leaders, but I burned myself out about halfway through the first lap. I made a dumb mistake (set up too wide on the first steep switch-back, and fell pretty hard on my left side. I must have hit my knee harder than I realized, but it felt okay at that point, and I slogged on. (this was after a stop to realign my handlebars with teh front wheel... the impact of my bars hitting the ground had knocked them about 20 degrees out of alignment. I was able to twist them back, but nervous for the rest of the ride that the stem was loose) Never really recovered from that crash. Just felt tired and out of breath. So then I hear people catching me. It turned out to be the expert women's leader, but I was thinking it was the beginner men's leader - which was making me mad. Anyway, when she caught me, I pulled off to get out of her way, and promptly fell down a small hillside, with one foot clipped in, and the bike tumbling over me. More dumb/tired idiocy on my part. I didn't know it at the time, but I also ripped a nice hole in the ass of my bib shorts, and my right butcheek was hanging out for the rest of the race. The mens beginner leader did catch me, but that tends to happen when you spend 2 minutes on the ground, and another minute or more bending your bike back to rideable condition. I stopped after my first lap to tighten the head tube and stem bolts, then realized my ass was exposed, and my knee was swelling pretty good. At that point, i turned in my number, told them to mark me as a DNF (so they wouldn't be looking for my body on the trail), and raised one beer to my lips while the other one 'iced' my knee. Kind of a frustrating and humbling day, as I biffed a few features I had previously been able to ride without dabbing, and also failed to complete the 2 laps I'd done at the last race. That said, i cleaned cheater's hill with a damaged bike and a gimpy left knee - and man did those beers taste good. Knee is still sore, but i've been icing it, and it seems to just be a really bad bruise. No meat to shield the bone there. Hoping I'll be riding again Thursday, and racing CX on Sunday at Brooklyn.

  3. I'm serious about hosting if folks want to hang out after the show. We have 2 acres about 10 minutes from the convention center, plenty of space for bike/car parking, bonfire space, chill neighbors, etc. Few pics of the place from early this year when we first got it, things are a little more cleaned up now.

  4. Ok gang, we have traction. It has been refereed to committee, so it is not dead. The committee will debate it and the modify it and pass it to the general assembly or it will kill it. We need to continue to move it along. I wrote another wall of text that you can copy and paste and email to the committee members. Yes there are a bunch but come on it will only take five minutes to do them all. When it goes to hearing we need to be there, I know for a fact they will look around the room to see if there is support. We will need to get @NinjaDoc there as our medical expert. No, he isn't a ENT but he as Dr. in front of his name it will bring credibility to what he says. I have also pinged ABATE to help, if you are a member ping them too. Here is the link to the committee members and the wall of text to paste...or say your own thing. Just click the members on the right and paste into a message. http://www.ohiohouse.gov/committee/transportation-and-public-safety Hello, I see that House Bill 280 has been refered to the Transportation and Public Safety Committee on which you serve. HB 280 addresses an issue with ORC 4511.84 that needs to be corrected. This law prohibits the use of earphones and earplugs while riding a motorcycle. While prohibiting earphones may make sense, the prohibition on earplugs does not. This law is antiquated and does not account for the medical community’s better understanding of hearing loss and it’s causes. Ohio is one of only five states that still have a law like this in effect. The Ohio BMV handbook for new motorcycle riders says: “Long-term exposure to engine and wind noise can cause permanent hearing damage, even if you have a quiet motorcycle and wear a full-face helmet. Whether you choose disposable foam plugs or reusable custom-molded devices, properly worn hearing protection reduces noise, while allowing you to hear important sounds like car horns and sirens.” I have a quiet motorcycle, and I wear a full face helmet. When I don’t wear ear plugs I can clearly tell my hearing has been impacted after a day of riding. They ring and buzz, just like being at a loud concert. Yes, I ignore the law and wear ear plugs as do a great many other riders I know. One of whom just got a $95 dollar ticket for doing so. I can assure you we can hear sirens, horns and the traffic around us when we wear ear plugs. Ear plugs are selective in what noise they block. Simply put the State has a law forcing a motorcycle rider to expose themselves to noise levels far in excess of what OSHA allows in the work place. It is forcing us to suffer permanent hearing loss. It has no moral right to do so. HB 280 needs to be passed to correct this issue. Please let me know what I can do to help make this happen and thank you in advance for your help in this matter and thank you for your service to our State. It is genuinly apprecaited.

  9. Here's my variant; again massive thanks to Tonik, especially since he hates it. :-P Hello, I see that House Bill 280 has been referred to the Transportation and Public Safety Committee on which you serve. I can assure you that we can hear sirens, horns and the traffic around us when we wear ear plugs. Ear plugs are selective in what noise they block – high-frequency wind “hiss.” Simply put, the State has a law forcing a motorcycle rider to expose themselves to noise levels far in excess of what OSHA allows in the work place. It is forcing us to suffer permanent hearing loss, has no ethical right to do so, so HB 280 needs to be passed to correct this issue. Please let me know what I can do to help make this happen, and thank you in advance for your help in this matter. I, and motorcyclists like me, love riding as well as reducing the risks of doing so. To us, earplugs are just another essential safety item like helmets, gloves, boots and padded, abrasion-resistant pants and jackets, and we’d love to do so without being subject to fines. Finally, thank you for your service to our State - it is genuinely appreciated! With sincere gratitude, Scott McCrory {contact details}

  13. Yeah, it was a good little ride. I just pushed myself too hard this past week and when you're in twisties and having a hard time keeping eyes open after two Red Bulls, you call it a day. But it was good to see you guys. I'm hoping to put together another ride or two before the end of the season.

  14. Finally made the plunge and ordered camping gear. I don't have much invested in it, so I won't feel so bad if I don't like it.

  16. I had an issue with my Sena 20S dual pack. Intercom range would drop within like 200 feet, had latest firmware and did factory reset, nothing helped. My old smh10's had way better range. Sena customer service is the worst ive ever experienced by far for any product ever in my 31 years of being alive. I emailed with them back and fourth for about a month for this issue. They kept purposely asking open ended redundant questions and took a day for each response. Like they are extremely ignorant or do it on purpose hoping u get frustrated and give up, well I'm no quitter my friend! Once I got them to agree (again about 1 month after my initial contact with them) they agreed to send me brand new units but only after I sent my old ones in first, I told them to kiss my ass. Knowing they were on backorder, so then they agreed to just ship me new ones first when they came into stock. Fast forward 2 months later, still no headsets. I emailed them every week. Finally I got super pissed and asked a supervisor contact me. In fact asked a total of 5 times and 2 weeks past and I got the run around. I then opened a BBB complaint. The company never responded to my dispute and due to that their rating dropped to a C I believe. I then ended up calling Sena myself, fumming fucking mad, being that crazy belligerent customer. They somehow found a way to get me new headsets mailed out by the next day. Here's the kicker...just got the new set...range is equally as terrible. Not even close to the claimed 1+ mile com range. I contacted those fuckers again and they are sending me another new set. I'm speechless at this point.

  17. Are there any Android devices out there that have all the features of the iPhone X and actually work well? I don't think so. I've heard the facial recognition is crap on Android and can be defeated with a picture of the person. I have no first hand experience so that could be inaccurate - just what I've read. I get tired of hearing that Android had x first, etc. etc. Not trying to be an Apple fanboi here but yeah, the features are generally found across the universe of Android phones. But, when you are looking at android phones, there are a number of manufacturers on different development cycles who don't necessarily care if the hardware meshes with the generic android OS - quite the opposite, most have customizations in the software to make it fit their hardware. So yeah, android generally comes out with functionality earlier but it's coming from multiple companies on variable timelines vs a single company that has a pretty consistent product update/release cycle. Android vs Apple is a tired debate. I'm also personally tired of Apple's ego stroking press events and product unveils and there are a large number of sheeple drones that clamor for anything Apple. I'm pretty invested in their ecosystem so I continue on, but I don't have any major complaints. If I had to switch platforms, I don't think I'd be unhappy about it other than all of the apps I've paid for that I'd have to leave behind. I do like the Apple watch and definitely feel like it currently has no peer in terms of functionality and ease of use so that alone keeps me on the Apple side of things. Some of the new Android phones from Samsung and Google are pretty nice but I'll stay put for now.

  18. I don't claim to know fuck all about racing, but I do know technology. This is pretty much the same argument every time new technology comes along. There's no way launch control, or wheelie control, or traction control, or even a quick shifter can do better than a skilled, experienced racer. Until they do. Ask Josh Hayes.

  19. There are days I contemplate picking up an SV650 track bike @Tonik Cheap to run. Cheap to crash. Parts everywhere. Knowledge everywhere. Handle extremely well. Slow in the straights but for fast riders some still find their way around my 1k. Corner speed, corner speed, corner speed. Edit: Did I mention they are cheap?
