  1. I wish. My kid was in an accident and totaled her car. As luck would have it it happened at the perfect time as we were pulled over waiting for the group to catch up otherwise I wouldn't have got the call. Also another lucky twist, we were well over 2 hours away from the scene so no way I could get there in time to be of any help but Jacobs quick thinking noticed it was just minutes from his dads house and he quickly called his dad who offered to help and went straight to the scene. His dad talked to my kid, stayed with her till it was resolved, handled the towing arrangements and paid the $200 bill for me without hesitation. I challenge anyone to show me a more stand up guy than Christopher Hawkins. Thank you again Jacob for catching that location and making that call.

  2. Not sure what's going on here but surely @Tonik can't be the only one with grievances about how certain group rides take place. Why does he get to be the only whiner? I personally don't have a problem with a group of ten riders as long as the sweep rider knows the route and is the same level rider as the lead guy. I took a few years off from riding lead in a group (with the exception of small sections of road that I liked) and never once knew the route but then I didn't need to since the lead guy knew how to handle the group properly. Just about any level rider can be expected to show up for a publicly posted group ride unless the posted pace specifically excludes their abilities. Even then a ride descriptor is subject to interpretation and by the first gas stop an outlier should be clearly identified. A fast pace for a long time seasoned rider is different for a one or two year rider. I've made many concessions for riders that didn't fit in with the group and if you are unwilling or unable to figure out how to handle such situations maybe you shouldn't be making group rides public or trying to lead them.

  3. 2nd might be pretty bad, that is Labor Day weekend. Damn illegal immigrants don't know our holidays.

  6. I hate using straps, and I didn't feel like spending $350 for a pitbull TRS, so I decided to make my own. Granted I copied a lot from the Pitbull stuff, I have way less in my setup than what they cost. The first one I did (for my bike) was a lot of trial and error, but once I figured out how I wanted everything to go, everything is a lot easier now. i had a local guy to me, machine pins for the axel, and drilled the main hoop and axel pins and have a pin that goes through to keep them in place. The base isn't as quick as the pitbull, but it works and is secure. A nut was welded to a piece a flat stock that is welded to the main hoop, and the base has tabs with holes so you can just bolt it right up. It's rock solid once in place. everything will get powder coated here shortly. This one I'm making for a buddy, this is the start, but cleaner, and I've modified it some.

  10. Yeah, destroyed it pushing the front flange out from the back side. It probably needed a repack anyway, it's 12 - 14 years old. At least now I know why it was starting to sound ratty! I've already contacted Dale Walker at Holeshot for new packing and repair parts. For now I'm planning to put it back together w/o packing and with aluminum rivets until the right stuff gets here. I picked up a 1-3/4" exhaust pipe coupling at AutoZone at lunch today to make a sleeve for the broken core.

  11. I sincerely doubt it. We're only getting a partial eclipse here in Ohio, and it isn't supposed to last all that long. Probably won't be darker than a cloudy day.

  14. I took a ride north of CBus. It was one of those rides where I just headed out and got lost. I think that I was about an hour or so from home (and headed the wrong direction) when I finally gave in and turned on Google Maps for some guidance. It was a non-technical clear the head kind of day.

  15. I have 3 questions for each nights accomodations, cause I know @Connie14 wants to know. 1. Where's the closest liquor store? 2. What time is breakfast? 3. What time does the pool close?

  19. No one rides with us because. A. We are old and have to pee frequently. B. We don’t have helmet communications. C. Our stops are for fuel, snack and pee. NO! Facebook updates or “there I was” stories. D. It’s about the ride. We did have an unscheduled stop on route 7 when we saw the Hate Train at a café. We checked in on them and hit the restroom and tried to down some coffee. We left shortly because Tonik was seductively licking a soft serve ice cream cone with his eyes locked on the large bearded short order cook who had a strong Russian accent. A lady left with her infant child before she could finish her lunch it was so bad. I had fun and thanks for letting me ride along. I don’t mind leading a group but please publish the route in a (gpx) format and last thing. Jacob, Quit whining like a bitch to Tonic off line.

  23. Buy my 2005 FZ1 31k, full Givi 3 bag setup, Pauly was doing the work on it until I moved down to Columbus. I'll be putting a steering head bearing and new brake pads on it this offseason; doesn't need anything other than a hard wash.
