  8. LeBron just spent 41 million dollars to send every kid in Akron to college. And that is just a small part of what he does. He can ask for all the money he wants from Dan Gilbert as far as I am concerned. Dude is a fucking saint.

  10. You'll never get it if you try to figure it out analyzing every possibility. Just Try some RPM matching on upshifts & see what happens. When you do it wrong your bike will tell you. When you do it right your bike will tell you. If you suck at it, your mechanic will tell you.

  11. I'm in for the releasing the demons pace, I notice it was not mentioned in the opening post. It seemed to peak at Mach retard. I miss those rides with Punk and Hutch and Brent.

  12. I bought bike camping gear, all lightweight stuff. It doubles as backpack gear. Check the "packed" size of tents, many have poles that are very long. Not sure how to get that on a bike. Not many packed short and small tents to chose from. A couple of the camping websites are good about listing that packed size. Make a list of which ones seem like it will fit on your bike. I went with a mil-spec "coyote" solo tent. Hard to find. Also picked up an older model Eureka two person tent that packs pretty short. Got both foam mat and mil-spec air mattress, but have no opinion yet. Except the foam mat won't fit inside anything. It has to roll up, strap tight, and hang somewhere. Figured I might make a water-proof bag to fit that. Note: the solo tent and the air mattress actually fit inside a single compression bag, about 8"dia by 12" long. Didn't really compress that, I did for the sleeping bag and a little pillow. Wait till you try to pick out camp cooking gear for the bike. lol, good luck. And yes, self-inflating. Also, one of those silver survival blankets works well on the ground, as a heat reflector. Well, so does pine needles...

  14. I bought a "13 new in "14 because it cost half as much as the bike I was lusting after & it kept me from spending money that I didn't have. Although not a supersport it is a bike fully capable of what you require. 16,000 miles & only tires, gas, oil (burns none), a little brake fluid, & a couple cans of Belray chain lube. If you get one, definitely change out the 50 series rear tire for a 55 series because it makes the steering neutral. I guess the newer ones have traction control & ABS if you are interested in that sort of thing. If you push past about 90% of supersport capabilities you will be dragging pegs though. Good luck on making your decision.

  16. Tent is most important...Hard to beat this one for the $$: http://www.campsaver.com/kelty-salida-2-tent-2-person-3-season Next most important is the sleeping pad. Here's what I use: https://www.lightspeedoutdoors.com/sleep-pad-with-pillow-blue.html

  18. man, don't let what you think others will say deter you .... last year I started both races on the front row and then carefully executed a retreat to the mid/back of pack. I rode my best, and it was what it was ... had a blast doing so.

  21. All riders must wear one or two-piece suits with substantial reinforcement and padding in critical areas (knees, elbows, shoulders at a minimum.) • INTERMEDIATE and ADVANCED GROUP riders must wear one or two piece leather suits designed for motorcycle use. Two-piece leathers must provide at least 50% attachment between jacket and pants. • NOVICE GROUP riders must wear one or two piece leather or ballistic suites. It is recommended that two-piece suits provide attachment between jacket and pants. • INTERMEDIATE and ADVANCED GROUP riders MUST wear a back protector designed for motorcycle competition in lieu of, or in addition to, the standard back padding in their suit. http://www.midohio.com/images/pdf/2017 Waiver Packet PTR2.pdf

  29. Any old guy bike will do. Hell, on my way down to the ride Sunday I followed behind an older gentlemen on a Harley bagger that was holding an admirable pace. I stayed behind him for about 5 miles or so just to watch. We both stopped to gas up in Coshocton & complimented him on being a 1%er so to speak. He said that the Ohlins helped but none the less. Don't think I'll go the ADV route myself as I've got my eye on something European that looks very comfortable but will be more in line with the CBR than the Ninja in the Twisties department. (That's after I get the new phone, by the way.)

  31. Well said Tim. I started riding with Dave L and Bill B from Core in 2001 I think. Loved the corners but I sucked and was slow due to lack of skill and saddle time. Over the years I've logged about 250,000 miles. Most of them in Southern Oh. I can honestly say that when riding I rarely blow a corner, don't use brakes much and feel comfortable riding the speeds we do. The small group I ride with does ride fast. Who leads depends on the day and how we feel. We all have had days where we just don't feel it and have broken off. To put it bluntly, slab about 100 miles to get to the Twisties and don't want to ride at 50%. I only get out every 2 or 3 weeks and want to wick it up a bit. Sorry if our rides have offended anyone. We often keep our rides private.....Maybe we need to continue doing just that.

  32. There's no magic pill for this. What @NinjaDoc told me a few years ago was miles. You just need to put down miles in the curvy stuff. And that's just what I did. I went on many long rides by myself just concentrating on different aspects of riding. After a few thousand miles I returned to some of these group rides and I was doing much better. I'm still not fast nor claim to be but I think I can hold my own now. What I did always do (and continue to do) was ride within myself. Within my abilities all the time, regardless of who I was riding with. As for the random acts of God, i.e. Trees falling and deers crossing, nothing is gonna solve that completely. You just have to put yourself in a position to deal with the unknown the best. Whether that be the pace you are riding or the line you take into a corner. For example a lot of us on the street take an outside to inside approach. We go into the corner on the wide side of the lane which allows us to see the furthest through a particular corner, hopefully giving us enough reaction time if something were on the other side. But that's not going to completely protect you from the unknown.

  34. The whole motorcycle classification thing still bogles my mind. I have seen some 4 wheel conversions of the Slingshot already and I know there has been an LS-Swap already done. Still, I'd rather have something that I can drive in the rain if need be with a roof. IMO Steering wheel = Car Handlebars = Motorcycle

  35. Tracy, Before a ride ask if anyone would mind following you for a few miles and giving you some feedback. I've done this for lots of people (some on this board), pretty sure UP has also. After just a couple miles of curves, I guarantee I can give you some pointers that will have you riding smoother, safer, and more confidently by the end of the day.

  36. The road doesn't seem to be the most stress-free place to practice taking corners faster! Maybe I'm just getting old, and everyone knows I think too much. heh But working on cornering could get you out of trouble one day. Anyway, if you have enough power, you could always catch up on the straights! Get it to 90mph?
