  1. hahah i never prescribed narcotic/ sedatives ever and will never use it myself too. i have a very weak will power and poor mental strength and resolve. Exhibit A is my weak pathetic 3 time failed attempt at quitting motorcycling. this is exactly why i never want to try smoking or drinking coz i know i am gonna be a raging alcoholic or certified rapper Will drop some badass bars and finish with "thank you come again"

  5. Let me know, I still plan on riding tomorrow and if you end up heading down I'll still trailer over. Sunday says "heavy rain with thunderstorms", tomorrow says "an afternoon thunderstorm or two" on accuweather. looks like the rain will be around mostly starting after 2pm in the mcconnelsville area.

  14. Oil change, long version. I like to believe that for those of us that wrench on our own bikes, we have a spirit rider watching over us, guiding us during repairs. I recently picked up a Harley V-rod and at first I thought my spirit rider would be some kind of awesome German engineer named Hans or something. Turned out I was only half right. Tonight was the first oil change since I bought the bike last fall, initial eyeball testing told me then that the oil could wait until spring and as we have the ride this weekend, it was time. I assembled all my tools, oil, and filter, got a new box of rubber gloves, and set out to get it done. I should have known better that it would be "Git er dun!" Hans wasn't alone since this is a Harley. This particular bike is American with German development. My other spirit rider I'll call Dusty. Hans speaks softly over the tree frogs croaking after tonight's rain, "Ya, you can do zis no problem. You wrench ok so jus get to eet." Dusty laughs in the corner, opening a beer I imagine, "You ain't seen nuttin yet fellas, that there is American iron don't you forget it." First up, drain the oil. Well for the love of Willie G., the bolt is a bit rounded and I have to swing the radiator away from the frame but it's not so bad. "Yet," calls Dusty. I look at him confused. "Naw, it's ok, you're doing fine monkey boy, go on now. You might consider gittin' that paint tray for the oil there professor. No, the big wide one." Dusty is right, my regular drain bucket is too tall for the V-rod. The paint tray is for a wide roller so it will hold about 6 quarts or so. "Ya but vat is eet in liters?" says Hans as he's looking through my tools. "And vats vit all dis no-name tools?" I put the tray under the plug and unscrew it, half the battle is done! "Heh, I like ur optimism home skillet," dusty says. The oil drains out, I clean the plug up and put it back in. I have a vacuum pump that I used to use on my car so I start sucking the oil out of the tray so I don't make a huge mess trying to pour the old oil back into the recycle jug. "Well hell genius, you could have just sucked it out with that now couldn't you?" Thanks Dusty, where were you 15 minutes ago? Old oil in the jug, now it's time for the filter. On my old Yamaha, the filter is in front, pointing forward so I could grip it easily to spin it on and off. "Not so on this here iron, Willie G. didn want no pointy bits moving the radiator out of the airflow so ya git what ya got." Shit, he's right, it points to the left and it's inside the frame tubes and has no socket head. Dusty laughs, "Ha ha yep, that's some cheap shit there boy." Hans is suspiciously quiet and then says, "Ya that wasn't mine idea." "Boy, you know what you need to do now don't you." Uh, hammer and screwdriver? "You damn right now do it and let's get the hell on with this show." I wound up having to punch the screwdriver through twice to turn it enough that I could move it by hand since the PO put it on too tight. Luckily, the replacement has a socket adapter on it so this won't be a repeat performance. Dusty gave me the nod as I wrapped up and said, "I knew you could do it, I just wanted to see you beat it up a bit." Hans patted my shoulder and said, "I make it wit lots of power, oil filter eez not mine idea." Thanks fellas, I think. Any similarities to any persons real or imagined is purely coincidental. The moral of this story is that I salute all the wrenchers out there from all nations and am happy to be a part of the motorcycling brother and sisterhood! See you this weekend.

  15. Well GREAT NEWS!!..My back is "very stable" and looks like is healing better than the expected average time frame. Doc is actually a rider herself and after asking me several questions about my bike and seating position, she sees no reason why I could not make this trip. With a couple stipulations as more of a comfort level type thing. One, she wants me to wait the two more weeks before I try to get on the bike just to be ensure that everything has that extra time to heal over. Two, wear one of my braces the entire time I'm riding. Three, if my bike doesn't have a back rest try to put something on the rear seat that I can lean against if I would need too. Which I was going to have a dry bag with an air mattress and my extra jacket there anyway so that was kinda already planned. Four, take it easy. Five, this is the important one she says.... DON'T WRECK..LOL Have my next appointment with her the week after we get back from the Gap and she said most likely at that time she will tell me I no longer will need the brace and she doesn't see where any other Physical Therapy will be needed. So that is it folks trip is on I'm going couldn't be happier. . Doc gave a green light, wife is there to ask are you sure 50 times and healing faster than anticipated as I thought I was.

  25. http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/nicky-hayden-earl-hayden-decries-fake-news/ From Earl Hayden: The family HAS NOT issued a statement that Nicky is dead. Nicky IS NOT dead, although he is on life support. Nicky was riding his bicycle alone, NOT in a group of 14 riders. Doctors DID NOT perform surgery on Nicky. Nicky WAS NEVER in an induced coma.

  28. not 100% certain yet, about 90% waiting for call from other guy. i am getting a crappy deal of weekend exchange and want to make sure at least its a ride able day to go explore SEO even if main ride cancelled. Pauly, you know me and I wont sleep the night before for such a big ride to make it to the meet spot at 10:30 i will have to leave home by 6:00 in order to keep it all back roads. To leave around 6:00 i will have to wake up at least by 5:00. After these many years i realized no matter what tricks i try i am never getting any good sleep the day before big ride esp if i am thinking i have to wake up this early. Just keep staring at phone every one hour. Hence the solution for me is to ride down after work today all back roads and try to get to a place close by and stay overnight before sunset. Will likley leave around 5-5:30 and ride till 9 pm and possible stay at caldwell which seems to have reasonable priced rooms. Probably will get rained on today evening before i reach there from the weather prediction. i really feel bad for @DerekClouser seems like he just cant catch a break year after year, all pressure on him to make a call at the last moment and the weather never helps out. As of now the chance of rain is less than 30% for tomorrow morning session and temps in upper 70 which is warm enough. even with no rain suit on If i am getting off i am riding no matter what. Hope at least few of you guys be there to meet up.

  36. I got back around 4 pm today. I rode a total of 1530 miles in 80 hours. Took WV 16 down to Marion, VA stayed at the Americas Best Value inn. Tuesday morning rode down to The Rattler, it was very gravely. Hit 215 north to south then rode 276. Tuesday and Wednesday night I camped at the Gap store. Made a couple of passes on the Dragon and then took the Skyway to get Krambonz for lunch. It was great, as usual. I forgot that the NC side of the Skyway was freshly paved. Then I went to Wheeler's and got 2 new tires. I knew that I was going to need a rear, but the front was done too. I rode back on the interstate today. Ready to go back down in 3 weeks!
