  1. I've been down twice and lived because I was wearing a helmet....and I also learned the value of wearing the appropriate gear after suffering through some f'in painful road rash. You know, the saying holds true - stupid should hurt and it hurt like hell. Never again.

  2. Greetings folks. Been riding for a number of years in the Dayton area and just never joined (didn't even really know about this site until Paul said something referencing it). So anyway, new bike this season (yay!) and thought I'd sign up. For your viewing (and drooling) pleasure: Hope to see ya out there.

  4. OsuMj, That sucks...Hey if you want to, we are leaving in the morning too. Me, my hubby, our Chapter Prez and a Chaser Car. We live in Huber and had planned on leaving around 730. Let me know if you want to tag along. I have met you briefly in Columbus maybe 2 yrs ago at some small event, I can't remember what it was. It was hella windy that day though. :-) I know my posts have been pretty much ignored the last few times...I feel like a phantom... :-) But again, let me know if you want to roll down together. Mel

  8. What a crock, if the father wanted to risk his own life for his child then so be it. I can't understand why the police should be allowed to stop him when others that do this very thing are deemed heroic even if they die trying

  9. Monday SR60 will be closed for bridge work at Blissfield. For you tourists, that's between Killbuck (USR62) and Warsaw, well Riverview High School. This section of SR60 has has patching done, sorta full lane, leaving the old center line paint showing. The unofficial way around this is my fave CR(s)....from Killbuck side, run SR60 to Layland, and take CR19 up the hill to Spring Mtn and grab CR22 down the other side to Warsaw. Be sure to pipe the house with the deck on it in Layland, it'll aggravate him....I'll get blamed for it anyway. Other things: Speaking of patching, SR83 from Clark, south to Coshocton, has strip patching being done. I hope it is a re-profiling attempt of the road, before resurfacing. My fear is that it will only be wheel rut patch and leave you the choice of center line rode or stay on patches. USR62 still closed, see the other string, and add in that USR62 at SR520, has another bridge being worked on. They are maintaining traffic with traffic signal and one lane. SR39, will be chipped and sealed from the Ashland Co. line over to SR179. That'll screw things up for bikes.

  10. Hello OR... Heard from a couple guys over on 600rr.net to check this place out. I bought my first street bike 2 weeks ago. Been having a blast. Looking to learn anything I can about the bike, riding, meet some new people and find some new places to ride. Im planning on doing some work to the bike this weekend so if anybody has anything that needs done or wants to lend some knowledge hit me up. Since any thread is useless without pics... here is the bike off the showroom floor. Starting to look a little different. Many mods to come.

  11. Sorry to hear that MJ. I hope it works out for you and you make it down. If anyone sees a white BMW X6 pulling a Z1000 on a small trailer, wave as you go by I'm not sure what time I'm leaving...depends on how the weather is looking. It looks like scattered showers tomorrow and Sat should be nice.

  17. Welcome. Nice bike. I installed some Woodcraft sliders on my 1000rr without problems. Just make some pointy head transfer screws, detach the fairings at the rear only, remove the frame bolts (being cautious I only did one side at a time), pull the fairings back enough to install the transfer screws, press on the outside of the fairings in the vicinity of the transfer screws to make a "center punch mark on the undersides of the fairings, remove fairings, pilot drill through from the undersides of the fairings, 2" hole saw through from the outsides (to avoid burrs) of the fairings, install metal frame slider "studs", install fairings, install plastic frame slider "pavement contact pieces" & you're done. These are something nice to have that you never want to use. Good luck & I'll see you on a twisty road sometime.

  18. It seems pretty straight forward, remove brake pads, clean it up, install new brake pads. Anything that I should know before I finish?

  25. you don't have to rev it or run it for very long. just fill it, cap it, turn it on and rev it a few times. then turn it off again to check. your bike shouldn't run long enough to get it to burninator temps. just do that a few times til the level stops dropping. once you're at deals gap, you can have someone check it and add some more for you if you're paranoid. this is not worth losing sleep over.

  26. fill with your choice of coolant, put cap back on, rev engine like a squid a few times, open it back up, add more coolant, close, rev, open, add, rinse and repeat til the level doesnt go down any more. if you let it get too hot while doing this, when you open the radiator cap, you're gonna get money shotted (I speak from first hand experience, you do NOT wanna get bukkaked by your bike). once you're reasonably sure it won't take more coolant, open up over flow reservoir cap, add coolant til somewhere between low-high line and ride off into the sunset.

  30. pumping the brake lever will close them. Slowly/gently pumping the brakes. Close the top on the master cylinder first. The new pads are usually about the same size as the gap they fit in. So it will be fun getting them to fit in there. On cars I use a big C clamp to push the caliper open. On bikes sometimes I hammer/pry with a wedge of hardwood. The object is to retract the piston(s) all the way back into the caliper(s) that holds it. Any method of doing that should be good. They are pretty tough to damage. But they are mostly aluminum, so something softer than aluminum.

  31. Funny story: got hit by a car a few weeks ago, full gear, couple bruises. The other drivers insurance adjuster shows up last week to take pics of the damage, chin is one big scab, black eye, broken blood vessels in same eye, palms raw etc. He's like 'yeah, I just laid my 74 Harley down last week, left the kick stand down" me: 'were you wearing any gear?' Him: 'nope'. Me: 'that's why your face is all fucked up. I just got hit by a fucking dodge dude, and I'm ok because I'm smart enough to wear the gear' him: 'well lets take some pics of this bike...'
