Connie14
A couple friends and I are taking a long weekend trip to the Adirondacks. Has anyone ridden up that way? Any suggestions on routes? Are there any suggestions on routes or sights to see while up there?

Revelstoker
I rode through the park and it is absolutely worth the trip. I think I rode 28, 30 and 3 from Utica to Placid. I went back on I87 and stopped in Saratoga.Enjoy.
Pokey
Been up there twice and yes it is amazingly beautiful and there are some fantastic roads, however I have doubts I shall ever visit that Communist/Marxist state again.
Bliz
I've been up that way many times. Lake Placid is really a great place. Mountains, Olympics stuff, lot of things to do and see. Going to the top of Whiteface Mountain is a great ride. We stay at Mountain View Inn which is in downtown Lake Placid. Nice rooms and reasonably priced (at least for Lake Placid.) First time we stayed there we arrived on bikes in the rain in the dark. The owner took his BMW car out of his garage and told us to put our bikes in his garage. Nice people. Looking at the map you will think the roads on the south side are good. They are not, head straight to lake placid and work your way west. Hit the bobsled track. You can ride it on wheels in the summer, out rocks. Just west of lake placid is sarnac. Good cheap hotels.
Connie14
Thanks for the info. We will probably camp, unless it is really wet. Any experience with campgrounds in the area?
Jcarlson
Where in the ADK's are you going? That's a big area. I'm from NY and have been all over the ADK's as a kid and was in Lake George just last year.Old Forge is nice. That's on the Western side, Lake George to the east has a HUGE rally each year first week of June called Americade (google it). Lake Placid/Tupper/Saranac Lake area in the north is the bomb too.Rt 30 is a good ride as is Rt3. Be sure to ride up Whiteface Mt, Gore Ski AreaBasically anywhere you go is awesome. Here's some links to help you out - http://www.adirondackscenicbyways.org/index.htmlhttp://www.oldforgeny.com/http://www.visitlakegeorge.com/homehttp://www.lakeplacid.com/http://tupper-lake.com/http://www.saranaclake.com/http://www.americade.com/Hope this helps. PM me if you want.Jim

ScubaCinci
I grew up in Lake George but moved to this area with my parents just before I was old enough to get bike and ride up there so I don't know all the good routes. I still have good friends that own motels, restaurants, etc there though.
Connie14
We are still in the planning stages, so we don't know exactly where we are going. We are still in the research stages. Last year we road through WV into Virginia. We then rode Skyline drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway. This year we wanted to ride something equally nice, so we voted to head to the ADKs. The trip won't come soon enough. Thanks again for the info.

motociclista
Here's a couple of articles I've written about the area that might give you some ideas:In Accelerate magazine and in Rider magazine. They cover some of the same areas, so they're a bit repetitive.
