reading the thread name I thought of the 80s band...

however I am a 2 door fan, no kids to haul. but, I am also a gullwing fan, too.

performance means a lot to me, and I am interested in the car.... I want to see more ....

Go drive one...they are a hoot!

The doors on the model X are referred to as Falcon wing because they articulate near the window line so they can open in tighter spaces. I'm not sure I have the patience to wait for them to raise and lower. I'm waiting to see the options/pricing on the X before I commit to the S.

Very cool, but not priced practically.

I think Tesla is playing the market right by highlighting a model that will hit 60 in 4 seconds. That draws attention.

But they will make real money when they can make a civic competitor for under $20k

I like their idea of being able to swap the battery in little time.  but still not all that practical until there is battery stations all over town.   I wonder how employers are going to start handling everyone needing to use the power cord from their buildings. lol

right now I don't see how anyone finds an electric vehicle practical.  everything about it costs more and needs more work.  (charging and all that jazz).   it's more of a cool thing right now.

unlike a sportbike with 200hp.  now thats practical...lol

My work has free charging stations in the garage which I plan on leveraging as much as possible.

I'm not sure where you see it costs more? No oil changes, etc...the only real ongoing maintenance items are tires, brakes and wipers (all of which can be done anywhere). Tesla recommends "service" (diagnostics and full inspection) once a year which is $600 but it's not compulsory, even on a lease and will not impact the warranty of not done. You can buy four years at once for $475 per service. The guy at work who has had one for closing on 3 years says he only brought his in for maintenance once and that was only because he was getting bodywork repaired.

He said his electric bill went up about $40-50 a month and he charges exclusively at home...drives ~60 miles a day. I calculated my gas cost monthly assuming 1,000 miles a month (I'm on a 12k/yr lease) with premium fuel @20mpg and I'm paying $130/mo minimum depending on gas prices which we all know are going to continue to rise. Don't forget the $7,500 tax credit :)

If I took road trips often and didn't have 3 other cars to drive, I'd be more hesitant to go all in on electric. There are charging stations everywhere (many are free) but the Tesla superchargers (free), which charge very rapidly, aren't quite saturating the country yet but getting there.

Gotta start somewhere. Tesla is showing us that we're not captive to oil. The prices will come down as more folks show interest. If I lived in the city I wouldn't even own a car. For now, my Cruze Eco gets 38-40/city and 48+/highway. All the economy of a hybrid and a turbo diesel without the hassle or cost. I'm pretty impressed with this little car, actually. I figured I'd not hate it, but I really enjoy driving it. Too bad GM took so long to get its head out of its ass. This thing is so much better than a Prius.

how many miles on that thing?

Attaboy Pauly. Our Verano has 42k on it and I'm glad the lease is up in a month because the typical GM nickel and dime bullshit things are starting to go

I got to drive a Tesla in a parking lot in AZ on vacation this summer. I was a big hater on electric until I drove it and inspected it then went back to our cabin and did an analysis much like Scuba did. Yes, i did a spreadsheet on vacation because of mere curiousity

Not gonna be cheaper, by much anyway. They are targeting the rich geek types...the technophiles. This car is far more about the tech than the electric. Certainly the electric is part of the draw, but the cruise, the self driving, the control panel, the hide away door handles, the self opening charging port......that is what I see the owners going gaga over.

Come on, the speed upgrade is called Ludicrous Mode. Takes a geek to truly appreciate that nomenclature.

Admittedly the tech is a big draw. The ludicrous mode is only on the P85D model and an option (i.e. costs money to enable). The 'lesser' models are stupid fast as well and more than plenty for an acceleration freak like me.

BTW, no fucking way am I letting the car drive itself. On the test drive, he had us put it in adaptive cruise mode where it will match the speed to the vehicle in front including stops. Made me a nervous wreck...I prefer control.

Yea, I learned to drive in a 74 454 Vette. Then owned a 10 second SS. So fast cars are nothing new to me. The one I drive was just the 85D, and it made me go holy crap....I think part of it is the lack of sound. You stomp it and look down and you are flying.

Plus it's idiot proof, no shifting, no worry about breaking the tires loose.

Edit...Change drive to drove. I dont own one, its the kids. Which is even better.

Umm, that's cheap hp when you're on that end of the scale.

I like them but they are heavy as fuck. They need to get that Elise based roadster working asap.

On the other hand, if they were offering a wagon/suv that could tow more than 5k lbs back when I bought my touareg, I would probably own one.
