Salvagetitle

I finally ended my first (and last, ever) fight for a title for a bike that didn't have one when purchased.

The bike was previously stolen.

However Vargas reported it as recovered. But long story short I now hold the title in my hand. The insurance company that held it said it would be salvage title.

But this says "original" NOT salvage on it and looks like every other title in my safe

What should a salvage title look like? Or say on it to differentiate it from a clean title?

It will say salvage or rebuilt depending if it's been inspected... It's on the front of the title, but I forget exactly where since it's been awhile... My vmax was rebuilt and it was typed right on the title... Theft recovery are usually, if not always, branded titles... Best bet may be to call bmv. Hate to see you get a felony (according to bmv this is a felony, but don't hold me to it) for riding it without having it inspected due to a misunderstanding with the title itself.

That's what confuses me. This one says "original"

However I had to obtain it from the insurance company that claimed it when it was stolen from original owner in2004.

When I go to the dmv. With "original" will it need to be inspected, or can I register it as is?

Like he said give them a call^

If it says clean title and it IS an ohio title you some how might be able to pass by

but if its still in a different state then once you transfer it, it might be branded rebuilt or slavage..

Lol that's a dumb statement... Who cares what that piece of paper says? When you get arrested and the bike impounded and booked on a class 5 felony, good luck arguing that a piece of paper makes you exempt from the law... He needs to call and ask, he doesn't need a fake name or anything stupid like that... He just needs to find out the title status of his vehicle... Youre making a big thing out of nothing... It's kinda fuckin odd, really

If you go for plates on it and the BMV issues them then I'd say you are good. Something an insurance person says on the phone doesn't matter - if the title is not branded then it is not branded.

If there is some brand or other legal roadblock that prevents them issuing plates then they will explain to you what needs to be done.

It is much more likely they will refuse to issue the plates by mistake than issue invalid plates by mistake.

The BMV is not out to trick you out of having a legally drivable vehicle.

I haven't called yet. It's rather low priority.

But I rather agree with the above.

I'm going to take it to my bmv. And attempt to title it, legally. As it says "original title" on it I believe they will give me plates or tell me upfront if something is amiss. Then I get it inspected. THEN get plates. Either way the outcome the same

Yes your title may be the original. Who's name is on it? That is the one that has to sign ownership over to the buyer as it were. Which has to be done in front of a notary. An odometer form also has to be filled out as well. Did anyone sign the back of the title to transfer it? If it is signed and dated and notorized the only thing extra would be a an extra 5 bucks for not transferring within 30 days. The insurance company does not issue titles so in reality the status won't change until it is transferred to your name. Call your local title office and explain the situation. You may want to block your number if you can't prove that you obtained the bike legally. You may have issues if no one signed over ownership on the original title.

Obtained legally? Gray area I guess.

However I know members of this board have gotten bikes and later obtained the title through other means.

The n

Bike was obtained in a trade. Then later the history was discovered. However the title is in progressives name. But has been signed and notarized to me. Yes I'll have to pay the extra fee. But all things aside what else could go down?

Regardless of history or situation, I have the legal title, from the legal owner, signed and motorized legally to me?

You have legal title signed over, you don't have anything to worry about. People seem to be making a huge deal of this. Just go in and title it, they will tell you whether or not it needs inspected. If it does, you have to go there anyways to pay for inspection to get receipt to take to inspection location. It's really not a big deal, you don't need a fake passport and foreign bank account like people seem to be suggesting. Just make sure not to ride the thing until you know title status. Riding a bike without tags is one thing, but riding a salvage bike with no inspection is much worse.

Please quote where anyone told him he needed a fake passport and bank account.

No one told him to do anything illegal. If he goes and gets the new title and there is an issue he will be informed. If there is not an issue then he is good to go.

Just because some of us are not choir boys and don't go above and beyond to make the governments life easier doesn't mean we are bad people.

If you don't tag it then you won't need to have it inspected... Inspection is nothing big, they check to make sure lights and such work, and ask for any receipts for repairs (being a theft recovery this wouldn't be necessary unless you actually do make repairs)... It's mainly just them trying to find stolen parts by checking vins and receipts, and making sure the vehicle is road worthy... When I was in getting my bike inspected, there was a subaru in there that was still wrecked, dude threw new lights on it and took it in and they passed him.. It's nothing in depth, just a revenue builder
