Shoei GT-Air Helmet

I have the plain gloss black version of it.  Love it, best money spent in years.  I wear prescription glasses so having the flip down sun visor was huge.  No more wishing for clear or dark when you start to get in and out of the trees or tunnels.  Airflow is not bad and compares as well as my old rf1000.  The visor is much more watertight than my previous helmets and was a great bonus for all the times I have gotten stuck in the rain in the last 2 seasons.  Make sure the shield is locked all the way down and the front vents are closed and I rode for over an hour in a massive downpour without the inside of the visor getting wet.The outer shield comes with pinlocks and Shoei included a clear anti-fog insert with the helmet.  Would call it 85% fog free in the real world.

It was initially very tight around the bottom of my jaw and the back of the neck.  The extra padding down low on the helmet is to try and reduce wind noise and it does a great job.  It's just a little weird to get used to at first.  It has the removable ear pockets so you can install an intercom.  Cheek pads have the red emergency quick releases like the race helmets.  While riding the Ducati, it has no windshield and the helmet is very good. It is quieter than the old rf1000 and is just as stable if not more so, I rarely wear earplugs.  With the Triumph, pretty sure it's the windscreen but it makes alot more wind noise.  The helmet is still stable with no buffeting or anything crazy, it's just louder.  I certainly need earplugs to keep the wind noise comfortable.   I would buy another one if it ever comes down to it.

I do wear glasses as well and the sun visor is nice. I currently have an hjc is 16 that's approaching 5 years old and I think it's time I upgrade. I noticed when looking at online reviews it claims they wind tunnel tested the helmet for enhanced aerodynamics. I ride a half naked bike (fz1) and my current helmet causes that buffeting effect when I'm on the highway, hopefully this either stops it or decreases it. It also appears the shoei is significantly lighter then my current helmet. Only thing that gets me is the price tag. However ridersdiscount has a decent deal on them. Now 2 sell some crap 2 have money for it b4 spring :-) Edited by silentcropduster

i highly recommend trying one on before buying. I went and tried on the GT air yesterday looking for a replacement for my qwest, and it doesn't fit/or feel anything like the qwest.

I definitely will b4 I do, I'll get it from ridersdiscount too bec they have the best deal.

I have GT Air INERTIA  4 months old.   I LOVE it I have always had full face helmets all have been Shoei .  LOVE IT!  Buy from CYCLE GEAR you have 7 days to return if you don't like it.  No questions asked  what a deal.  Been riding for 52 years!! Thom :)

I absolutely love mine. Only slight issue I have had with it is that on really cold mornings, it fogs quickly but any review will tell you that. Otherwise, the helmet is comfortable, cool, quiet, and the sunglasses are an excellent added feature. As far as fit goes, I have learned one thing: you are either a Shoei, Arai, or a Bell head. One of those three will probably fit you best. My head fits best in Shoei while other people fit better in Arai. Go to Iron Pony and try on all three to find out what works best for you.

Do my priorities changing and I have to be this thing we call "responsible" :-( the GT air is going to now be out of my price range. My limit is now around 250 max. I was looking at the the scorpion exo 1100 or the HJC RPHA 10 Cage Helmet.

Anybody even on these? Thoughts suggestions for others in my price range?
