Anyone into quadcopters?

I had to replace my dads rc copter since I left his remote on the top of my car and it went for a short ride.

This cheersons got gps, ioc, Rth, and a bunch of other features. I think it's a quantum nova clone.

I have a phantom vision+ v3 and its a blast. Love the FPV. Like everything else I own its been modified after having it a week  :D

Is your FPV thru your phone? Was your 2 axis gimble already on it? I'm having a hard time figuring out what i'm looking at for the 2 axis gimble gadget. Can't tell if it comes with the motors and controller or not.

Yes I have FPV via my phone. Actually I use my old iPhone 5 works perfectly. I also use a program called SHOU which records all the information on the screen (distance altitude speed battery etc) Once finished flying can download the video and edit in the recording from the phone. Its a newer version of iRec.

Phantom 2 vision + has a 3-Axis gimbal attached comes with a 1080p HD camera able to do 1080p 30, 720p 60 for clean slow motion and takes 14 Mega pixel stills.

So far I am loving playing with it. As long as I am locked into at least 6 satellites the GPS is very stable the thing can basically fly itself. Loose signal no problem will return to where it took off and land.

I got an AR Drone 2.0 for Christmas.

2 cameras built-in, including forward-facing that shoots HD video.  Uses my iPhone to control, and shows first-person footage while doing it, and it's awesome.  Has 2 hulls that swap for indoor use vs outdoor use, too!

Only downsides are 15 minutes battery life and that I don't really have any place big enough to fly it :(

Here's a Syma X5c-1 link at a good price. Flies well and takes videos for $56.00

Finally flew the Cheerson CX-20.

It's great.

GPS mode makes it hover in the sky, exaclty where I put it, regardless of wind.

Elevation mode is great to take it to a comfortable altitude then screw around getting used to forward, back, rotating left and right, and then left right lean while the quad keeps itself at the same altitude.

Return home mode is amazing. 4 different times I freaked out and got it so high I could barely see it and I couldn't tell which way it was going or it ran out of range. What ever happened, either way I just click on return home mode or turn off the transmitter and it comes home by itself and lands or once I can see it again flip off return home mode and keep flying.....

We strapped a kodak Playsport to it, which is pretty heavy, and took some videos. It flew great.

Below is the link to the Cheerson.

The Cheerson has GPS, having that return home mode is a quad saver, literally. I'm really impressed. This is a long way from my days of flying gas powered balsa made planes that took 40 hours to build and 10 seconds to destroy.

Isn't this the same one that they just found on the White House lawn?

I think that one was a DJI Phantom, maybe c7fx has a drinking problem...

Just curious as to what you have done to modify it.  Have you checked what your maximum range is yet?

I did a stage 2 antenna that should get me 4000-5000 depending on wifi noise.http://fpvlr.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=103   I'm still working on mine and with the weather lately I haven't been able to really play with it. So far I have done 1350 at around 400 feet alt. I think I might have an issue with one of the antennas or connections. The Mini RP-SMA connectors are a bitch and I might have forced it on. Anyways the fix is on the way and should get it in the next few days.

I also just down loaded The FVPbooster V3 iOS app (which they just lowered the price for three days.)

I have been getting braver with going further. I just wanted to figure out the time it takes to bring it back before the battery is depleted. With the cold I think it has lowered the flight time by 5 minutes!. Also I got rid of the prop guards which seemed to also hamper the copter and also can contribute to VRS (vortex ring state)  Which I did see signs of when descending straight down after doing some high altitude flights.

I'm sure I will do more mods since most things I own I seem to monkey with...

How does this one do?! They have a code that'll put it at 48$'s. Seems like a great toy... Does it fly well outside?

Yep. it's for the outside. But if you can swing it, that Cheerson is the way to go. You just can't beat the return home mode.

Are you using DJI Vision Ground Station and if so, have you flown in total autonomous  mode yet or are you just using LOS control?

I have used the ground station but thats boring. It is a little creepy how it goes...does its thing and comes back. I can watch it all with the FPV and record if I like. I mostly do LOS/FPV but at 1000 feet and 400 feet up its very hard to see so FPV works!

Jdonn if you haven't flown anything like this get a cheap copter practice. Otherwise I would get something like the Cheerson or DJI. I picked the DJI only because of the reviews and information I have found.

These will fly in winds up to 17 mph safely. I have read about people flying in stronger winds but not suggested. The RTH feature is great along with the ground control. (programed flight)

How do you program waypoints? What software and where is the data inputted to? The transmitter or the quad?

DJI has their own software for way points up to I think 16 points.  Its actually very easy to program just pick points on a satellite map of your position tell it at what altitude and speed you want to fly at slow med or fast and thats about it.

FPV booster V3 another app also has a way point program very similar. I'm not sure of the software that Cheerson has available but DJI is always updating. In fact I got an email about new software updates after the white house scare.

Here's my Syma X5C-1's first flight video. On and off wind at ground level. A lot more wind up higher. It cutting out was me trying to get it to come down. Lowest throttle setting and it would still climb when it was up high.

The battery low warning on these Syma's is flashing lights. You got about 1-10 seconds before it shuts down once you see flashing lights..
