Looking for a triumph america or a Vulcan not would have to have fuel injection and similar miles

 

I'd suggest riding an America before buying/trading.  I had a cosmetically custom (mechanically stock) America years ago.  While it was nice to look at, it was not much fun to ride.

So would a Vulcan 1500+ be a better choice? I will not buy a Harley, maybe a victory. Reason I'm looking at a cruiser is because I'm down right reckless on a sport style bike

Well if you're looking for something slow and docile maybe it is a good choice. Being reckless isn't limited to sporty bikes.

it's more the ability of testing the bike to the limits. I miss my cb550 and just cruising with it. Not that I am reckless as a bad rider I just make bad judgment calls and riding to hard on a sporty bike

I actually had nearly the sane thing typed and ready to send but figured..... Meh.. Opinions are like assholes....

Definitely try the Triumph before you buy. Significantly underpowered for a cruiser. That engine in the Bonne? Ok. Not going to light any fires, but ok for a standard. Not for a cruiser though.

So somehow going to a ridiculously heavy 1500cc bike with poor braking and poor handling will make for better decisions?

Sounds like a rider responsibility/maturity change is needed not a bike change but what do I know. I'm not casting stones, I do dumb shit all the time. Jussayin

there's a guy on Cleveland craigslist with a 2013 CBR 500R for trade.  Trade for that... it's "slow" enough (compared to other sportbikes, of course) that you'll feel no pressure to try and be faster than anyone.  Something that's a year old, liquid cooled, & fuel injected will be exactly what you want.... Fun to hop on & ride around on, won't pressure you to perform, and will be casual while still looking good. 

 

Lots of recklessness is curbed when you KNOW you're slower than the other guy.  

 

It sounds like you still want a "big" bike, though, if you're looking at cruisers... It'll be VERY hard to trade your 650 for a cruiser, meaning you'd have to sell it and then buy a differente bike... 

 

And it'll be pretty hard to sell what you've got for what you're asking. Most people with 5-6 thousand dollars who are motorcycle shopping tend to look at the "marquee" sport bikes.  And a Ninja 650 aint it.  So you miss the people looking for high-end bikes, and as for people looking for low-end bikes... they're not looking to spend that much money. It puts you in a tough spot.  The ways out are to learn better control (of yourself and your impulses, not the bike - and I'm not belittling you because it's a constant struggle for me, too) or take a loss :(  

 

Both are really hard to do.

I guess I should say. I have lost the passion for a sporty bike because I only want to go fast. I miss the feeling of my old cb550 and just hopping on and cruising around, not going out of my way to find twisties and being (slightly) bent over and struggling on longer rides.

Call it what you want, reckless or just wanting to be seen on a bike.

I want a bike to cruise on and u think the America is that bike. Low power and low temptation of putting myself in a situation where injury would be self inflicted.
