Does header wrap tape do anything for performance?

I tried to use exhuast tape once.  I couldn't get it to look perfect, and I am just a bit too OCD to live with that.  Took it off and trashed it.

I doubt there is any actual measureable change in performance.

It does help exhaust scavenging, but only if you open up the intake side. Cool air naturally flows faster towards the hotter side. The wrap keeps the exhaust hotter. But the change is pretty small.

The hot rodders must know some benifits to them...

Pretty sure the primary benefit to wrapping headers in a car is to minimize the under-hood heat….less heat = better cooling and less likelihood of fuel vaporization in the fuel pump/lines/carb.

Doubt that it has much utility in the newer FI set-ups other than cooling.

I had it on my DR650 so no one would come up and ask why my header was glowing red. I bought the black, it faded to white.

I have fears of going down and getting caught under the header

An old boss's daughter driving a car in the rain hit a truck driver and he wasn't wearing a seat belt and he went through his window onto his smokestacks.
