If you have an older motorcycle, you have likely run into electrical troubles.  If you’re lucky, more often than not it is just the battery.  But for the unfortunate ones, finding the source of an electrical gremlin can be a nightmare.

The basic motorcycle electrical system consists of three main components, the battery, the alternator, and the regulator/rectifier.  The alternator creates the electricity by converting kinetic energy into electrical to charge the battery.  The battery stores the energy, while the regulator keeps the voltage from overcharging the battery, and the rectifier converts current from AC to DC.  If anyone of these components fails, it can have the owner chasing their tail to diagnose the problem.
