2014 Ninja 1000

I'm a bit biased toward this bike since I own a 2011. I've made some minor modifications to mine to make it more touring than sport, though it lacks nothing for sport riding still. 

 

I really feel like this is the ultimate bike for sport touring. Everyone seems to think the VFR is the bike to have, and up until Kawasaki came out with this bike I agreed. Now I don't think any other bike can touch the Ninja 1000. It combines the sport and the touring too well.  For those that are wanting to get away from the supersports for something that is more comfortable without sacrificing the power of your current liter bike, this is the bike to have.

That’s right, at street RPM levels, the original Ninja 1000 was faster.

 

And they note in the article that they've made improvements for the 2014 model. That bike has got to be a beast.

The  N1K is what the vfr1200 should have been.  The 2014 is on my short list.

 

Truth.  The VFR12 is gettin' long in the tooth too.  Maybe something better next time?

I know a few people with vfr12s that fucking love them... So, if people who own them think they're great, not so sure about all the fail you guys always preach... Never ridden one so I don't have an opinion, but based on looks the new vfr blows this ninja away

 

 

The fail is in the showroom.  Plenty of deeply discounted 2010s will be sitting there for quite some time. 

 

Is the VFR12 an overweight, mediocre handling sport bike, or an uncomfortable sport tourer with short range and hard bags that are too small? 

 

For positives...it's a fast bike with Honda build quality.  That may be good enough for some, but there are plenty of better bikes that cost a lot less than $16k.

What is a "street RPM level"?

 

I wind my bike to red line in the first few gears usually. Then snap up to 6th to maintain speed.

all this! Its like they took the positive things from the vfr800 and ignored them to make a fatter tweener

Just saying the only people I see bitch about the vfr12 are people who don't own one... My cb was a leftover, and definitely not a hot seller, but it's the best bike I've ever owned.. Enjoy it MUCH more than the vfr... Dealership sales don't mean anything, or else gsxr600s would be the best bike ever ever

The bike has no range, the tank is too small for it to be a sport touring machine. And the price for what you get is ridiculous, much much better all around choices for less money with more goodies.

What is the VFR12?  It looks like an ST, but Honda calls it a sport bike.  It has serious flaws with either category. 

 

Your CB1000R hits it's mark much better than the VFR.  I've seen new 2010 VFR12's advertised for under 10k, and that price is going to drop even further over the winter.

 

I'd take a chance on a used one for $6.5k-ish...I'll bet they'll be selling for that by the end of next season.

You're a special case as is already obvious. If your reading comprehension skills were what you boast them to be you would see that the article feels street RPM are in the 4k-8k range

Why keep mentioning range? The vfr800 doesn't have excellent range either... I got like 150 miles before needing to top off usually...It was riding the same line between sport and touring, doing well at both but not excelling in either ... Guess maybe you have to ride one a few miles to understand the hatred... But the new vfr is one of the most popular bikes out here, and everyone I know that's ridden one loves them ... My coworker rides the shit out of his... Does it tour like an ST? No, it's not an ST. it's not a cbr either...

The vfr1200 was marketed to compete withe the fjr and the C14 and it failed miserably. That's not saying it's a bad bike though. It is comparable to the N1000, except the N1000 does everything better. Again, I may be biased but I think it's quite a good looking bike too.
